Glasgow Alloy Refurbers?

Hi Folks,

I'm based just outside Glasgow and have just picked up a C4S with the 18" Turbo Alloys on it. The car is in great condition, but the alloys have a wee bit of corrosion on them and I want to get them up to the same condition as the rest of the car.

So currently looking for a good place to take them to bring them back to factory fresh.

Any suggestions/recommendations??

I just bought a set of 18" hollow spoke turbos that needed a refurb. Brian Woods (Kitchens) recommended 'The wheel Specialist' in East Kilbride. I've just dropped them off. Brian has put a lot of Porsche work their way and they do work for the OPC Glasgow. I cant pick my wheels up until next week due to e being away, so I wont know how good they are until I get back.

the east kilbride place does a good job for around £50 to £60 per wheel, (this is powder coating) factory wheels are painted and laquered, which is more costly,

Spoke to them today and they said Glasgow OPC send all their wheels to them too.

So if it's good enough for the OPC... I'm sure it's good enough for me!

PC Glasgow used to send their wheels to Mitchell Inglis (Porsche approved bodyshop), who do a good job and match the original finish perfectly (paint and laquer). The Wheel Specialist in EK can paint and laquer as well but on a powder coat not paint base. The colour match is good but I found them a bit too enthusiastic with the powder base coat resulting in a finish that looked too thick. So thick in fact that the centre cap on one of the wheels wouldn't fit without a bit of fettling.

 
To be fair to the guys in E-K i had the same problem with to much paint but they rectified it FOC and told me take the wheels away and see how you get on and no charge till you are satisfied.cannot complain about that service and to be fair they had just started up in business way back in 2009 .As said must do a good job to get OPC business and we get approx 25% off list price
 
Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin." The powder may be a thermoplastic or a thermoset polymer. It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Powder coating is mainly used for coating of metals, such as "whiteware", aluminium extrusions, and automobile and bicycle parts. In terms of quality on wheels a powder coat finish will give you excellent protection from stone chips and there should be very little difference in look to a painted wheel.
 
I'm assuming the 25%-ish is only for paid up members?

They didn't mention it today ... Hmmmm...

 
Didn't find the QC particularly good at Wheel Specialist. To be fair they did rectify it but I'm not sure I would take another set to them.
 
Just go and see the guy and voice any concerns you have ...... and negotiate your own deal .....If you dont ask you will not get ....no one is going to give profit away without being asked .
I would still recommend them as they do a good job and are approachable and loads of members have used there service over the years.

Booked in for next week.

Will pop up this weekend too, to check colours etc. But 99.99% sure I want them standard Porsche silver, just as they came out the factory.

If anyone has suggestions for other colours that work really well with a silver C4S, feel free to share pics and ideas !!

This was very recent. To be fair after redoing all 4 wheels they said if there is an issue w/in 12 months they will warrant it. I'd rather have my wheels done spot on 1st time as I had to have my car on stand a couple of times as I prefer to take just the wheels to shops.

Don't forget this is a franchise and quality varies.
 
I have tried the wheel specalist twice now. Once for my Cayenne, the close spoke wheels caused some problems and they had two attempts to get these right. They also did some work on my wife's car which was fine.

I think with wheels that have good spacing / clearance there will be no problem. Tight spoked alloys are a pain for anyone.

However, I have recently came across a chap in Govan called the polisher who would appear to do some amazing work on BBS alloys etc. My 993 turbo technology wheels will be going there next week, I will let you know the outcome.
 
There is a new firm just opened up recently in Glenrothes called Fife Powdercoating who did a set of wheels for me and made a fantastic job at a really keen price. They were diamond cut and polished Mercedes wheels, and I could not find anyone who would tackle them. These guys suggested doing them in chrome powder coat, and the result is superb, the closest thing I could find to the original factory finish.
 
My son Greg and I have just had our race Mini wheels done by Powdertec near the Kingston Bridge.
This is under new management and the quality and customer service was good.
Ask for David and mention Greg Barnards race Mini
 
I can agree Powdertec do a great job and as for The Polisher a couple of units away, his work is excellent. I had my sport classic 2s refurbished, powdercoat centres and a hand polished rim, The Polisher also sorted 2 stripped BBS bolts in my classic 2s, I didnt get the rim laquered like the factory do, I just put rim wax on and I can always re hand polish if needs be.
