gearbox removal advice

I have undone both mounting bolts that hald the gearbox to the body and seperated the box from the torx tube housing,Undone the pinch bolts off the sleeve to torx tube.Disconnected the gear selector bar.
My queery is there a nack to final removal as the box is just floating on the sleeve and there isnt much movement to the spare wheel hump being in the way.
This is coming off a scrap early dash model.

It is probably caught on the plastic guide tube for the selector rod. You have tp push it through the gearbox as far as you can to clear the selector rod. Many have had a section cut out of the top to make removal easier or they have broken it whilst removing it.
 
You said you loosened the pinch bolts on the shaft connecting sleeve - As I recall, you need to remove them and then you can slide the sleeve right along to clear the join.

sorry I meant I removed the bolts.Does the sleeve move back towards the front of the car as there seems no movement on the shaft splines
 
Are you talking about the sleeve that links the torque tube to the gearbox. If so move it towards the gearbox and remove it with the gearbox. You can see the plastic sleeve I was talking about in the photo below.

torque tube / gearbox sleeve can be difficult to move if the gearbox is not aligned as it probably is now the mounting bolts have been removed.

need to realign and tighten gearbox to torque tube casing and should move quite easily with a blunt pry bar

It is very tight, and tricky if doing it on your own. My brother had this problem on my race car what we agreed was that as its a race car just 'releave' the spare wheel well a touch to give that last extra 1/4 inch clearance. As it is you can't even tell looking at it that this is what we did.
