The R2 annual Weekend of the Year traditionally takes place at the end of October, coincideing with the clocks going back on Sunday morning, giving attendees an extra hour to recover from Saturday night's festivities. Once again the event was organised by former RO Steve Rose. The venue was the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness. As usual, Steve had prepared three optional driving itineraries (Black Isle, West Coast scenic and the notorious Bealach na ba route to Applecross) and a list of local attractions. Many thanks to Steve for an excellent event.
In 1985, the original R1 Region (ALL Scotland) was split, forming R2 for members North of Perth while those in the South continued with R1, renamed Scotland South. As is usual for this event, there was a theme for the Saturday night dinner. To celebrate 40 years of Region 2, the chosen theme was the "1980s". In total 19 cars made the journey ranging from a 1978 930 Turbo to a brand new Boxster GTS 4.0. Attendees rose to the occasion with a varied range of outfits, as you will see below. Standout of the event was Crocodile Dundee (aka Martin) with his inflatable croc (not a Cayman...). The event concluded with the traditional awards and the "Passing of the Quiachs", from which copious quantities of whisky were imbibed.
An excellent weekend, the photos below give a flavour for the event.
