Hi,
I hope someone can help with a few questions regarding a MOT failure point for a 1990 Turbo. Can't go too long without a 944 drive !
MOT test has found a leaking fuel pipe, so need to fix that immediately. It is a small area repaired by previous owner. Also where my Porsche Indy replaced it a year ago, but that clearly did not work. The part of the pipe leaking is in front of the axle about in line with the back of the doors, so it is easy for a garage to access. As the Indy is a one hour drive away I will ask the MOT garage to fix it. However they suggest I bring the pipe that I want and recommended Demon Tweeks site. That shows a selection of braided flexible fuel hose available in different sizes.
What guage or size fuel pipe is required?
What pressure range is required? The fuel line choices seem to be marked low or high pressue.
Any recommendations on the best type of jubilee clip type attachments for flexi fuel hose?
This fix is just to get back on the road. Then I can take it to be assessed further. Hopefully it will not need a full orignial pipe replacement or RPMtechnik type braided kit replacement.
I have not noticed any sign of the leak when parked. Must have missed it, as it seems an unlikley coincidence that a leak would just start on the MOT day. Nevertheless, I was wondering if it might be an intermittent leak.
Does the fuel pressure change between engine on & engine off?
Also the pipe mounting onto the fuel filter looks corroded and siezed. Any thoughts on fixes to replace a fuel filter without damaging fuel pipes? Has anyone recently replaced the pipe from the filter back to the fuel tank? I recall a Porsche Indy mentioning that this section of pipe/fittings was not available from Porsche.
Thanks for your help.
Simon.
