Fuel filler flap - spring?

Having not had out 944 that long, one job I have got round to looking at is the fuel filler flap - it closes OK but not firmly and fully (see pic). It's as if there is a spring missing that would hold it firmly closed. "Do they all do that", or should there be a spring in the hinge area that holds it firmly shut? I greased the hinge area with spray lithium and it works smoothly enough.

It's just a flap, no spring or clip. Maybe look at the 2 screws that hold the hing. See if every thing is lined up with the pannle creases

make sure the filler cap is horizontal mine was the same I discovered that rotating the cap solved the problem[8|]

Mine is similar does not fit flush although not as far off as your picture, tried adjusting it to no avail so just live with it.

Thanks for the feedback - it is useful to know that nothing is missing or broken in the flap hinge. Certainly, positioning the filler cap as suggested above and carefully tucking away the little rubber mat helps. Cheers everyone..

Mine did this also. I removed the two screws holding it on and reinstalled it with a small piece of cardboard under one side of the bracket which had the effect of moving the cap in flush with the body.

That sounds like a very good idea - many thanks for the tip.

I had this on my square dash and thought I'd be clever and buy the new (and cheap) gasket from Porsche. However it's paper type and very thin and made no difference. I ended up using washers in the end. Fiddly to fit without them dropping off the screws when trying to fit but got there in the end!
