Fuel cap cable broken

Just went to fill up on Optimax and yes the cable bust, any ideas as to how to open the flap as an interim until I get the cable sorted?

Hi Beaky,

I don't think you will find it difficult to open your filler cap. You can see the catch if you look into the gap.
You can push the catch (the lower one) towards the front of the car using something which won't scratch your paintwork, possibly a wooden lolly stick?

This may sound complicated - trust me, it isn't.

Buy some string or strimmer wire.
cut about a 12 inches off.
Hold the string/wire with one hand at either end. Line the middle of the string/wire to the top (nearest the windscreen) of the fuel filler cap and gently run it under the fuel filler cap trying to catch the hook that the wire would normally pull.

Thanks guy's. both options worked a treat, I used a shoe lace instead of wire as it would definitely not damage the bodywork.

As for the original cable looks like the end locating/locked item just came off, so poked the wire through again and used a nut & bolt to secure, works OK

When I said strimmer wire I meant the plastic sort - did you try and buy some heavy duty metal wire? That's not good for the paintwork[][]
