It really is much more simple than you are probably thinking it will be. Start at the top of the windscreen, leaving enough 'spare' to allow you to fix the camera & then can be tucked into the headlining, the cable will just slide up there really easily. Then between the A pillar and windscreen to the bottom corner.

Just been through this and as i have an extended waranty i didnt want to hard wire it. I was worried how much the supplied adapter-plug protruded into the footwell in the cayenne so i ditched the powerlead that came with the dashcam and bought a 3m usb lead with the correct end (micro in my case). I have the thinkware 770 front and back very impressed. Its hardwired in off a spare fuse on the fuse box. I have heard porsche will disconnect it when its time for a service as it could void warranty. The advantage is it protects the car when its parked through regular videos and if bumped it takes videos .

Sorry to ask again, but when the cable comes down the a pillar, is that windscreen side or cabin side (Ie across the top of the a pillar and then down) Had a quick look today and can see the roof lining has some flexibility so should be fine, felt tight on the a pillar where it touches the windscreen.
Also is the trim tool used to pry the trim back to allow the cable to feed in or is it used to push the cable in?

No worries! Windscreen side of the A pillar, it is tight but once you get the first part in & realise there is plenty of space inside there, you will get more confident in pushing it. Good luck with it!

Porsche have just released their own new dashcam (identical to Audi's Universal Traffice Recorder - look it up ). Checked it out with Porsche currently the only Cayman/Boxster versions it will fit (i.e. Porsche will warranty-wise fit) is the 718 models. I'm told that it will also fit all 'current' Porsche models meaning, I suspect, ranges that can currently be bought new?? I was told that to fit to a 718 is about 3 hours labour and with camera worked out just over ÂŁ800. I have the Audi version in my Audi A4 Allroad with a front & rear camera and it's superb. Like Audi, Porsche will have an App to download where it can manage the camera.
Just seen and researched the suitability of the new Porsche Dash Cam that's been released. Great! I have the identical camera in my Audi and it's superb plus linked to an App. HOWEVER, at present it's only available to 2017 models onward I'm informed and has to be linked to the PCM so I'm guessing a PCM 4.0 ? Can't understand why it's connected through the PCM other than to link info to the App?
I have a 2016 Cayman GTS so I'm somewhat frustrated as it's such a superb, smart and functional camera. Any Porsche tech boffins have an answer why it goes through the PCM?

FYI - I enquired about fitting the new front dash cam and was advised that porsche now offer to fit the rear too. The 'new' Porsche camera is an identical version of the Audi Camera which is called a UTR - Universal Traffic Camera. I have it fitted in my Audi A4 Allroad and it's exceptional (both front & rear). It's linked to the Audi UTR app and the Audi MMI (PCM equivalent - I have a 981 GTS Cayman). I filmed a drive up a mountain in my Audi when I first got it, sound is turned off and it's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFoJ0by5Vt8&t=108s . I was toying with the idea of buying a 2nd hand UTR and fitting it in my Cayman as I suspect it'll work somehow but haven't researched it enough. The UTR is quite amazing and totally robust and discreet and would highly recommend this against any other. I'm guessing the cost to fit might be steep as it took about 5 hours in my Audi but it did have a panoramic sunroof and cables were all hidden away. If I was now to go with any other make it would be Black Vue and possibly the 750 model as a minimum but otherwise the 900X I think it's called. Most of the other cameras are bulky and cumbersome. Thanks for this list it worked a treat, went with an angled lead to my nextbase. I would recommend going with a 3M lead though.
