Front end noise?

HI everyone difficult one this BUT I seem to have developed a noise on front end of 2006 987s , sounds like rubbers squeaking/ rubbing when starting off , going over speed bumps? NO knocking noise, all steering , suspension work perfectly! its not much i know but would love t know if anyones had same prob!
 
sounds like track arm bushes,replace the arms,should be ok.It is common on all Porsche sports cars.

I agree, mine did this on the front, when I replaced the arms because the ball joints were worn out I put the arm in a vice and simulated suspension movement, got the squeek even though the bushes didn't look worn. You can temporarily get rid of it with either some Silicone rubber lubricant or WD but it will return. Mine stops making the noise after a few miles, (still does it on the rears).
 
cheers all, sounds like my problem, yes nick you do hear it when turning wheel at low speeds and when first pulling away but not all the time!.........
 
I ask because my Cayman is in for some work at the end of this month and the noise is something to do wth the the suspension system. Mine does it after a couple of miles, when I assume the bushes or whatever have warmed up, and then does it all the time until the car has ben left for some time to cool down. But, it is so quiet it can only be heard at low speeds.

Apparently this has been an issue on a couple of Caymans



 
I replaced all of my front bushes with powerflex bushes two years ago which (temporarily) cured the squeaking noise, but it's back again now. What new components need to be fitted to cure the noise?
 
prob the front track control arms, just had mine done and that cured the annoying noise - Hartech do a recon unit for about £90, I wasnt aware of that when I replaced mine [>:]
 
cheers nick, are you replacing only the bushes or the full arm? or are you waiting to see what garage says?:)
 
As its under warranty who cares what they replace [:D]

But I will get a run through of parts that were used. Always useful to know if it goes wrong again.
 
Can you just replace the bushes on 987 (at low cost) or do you need to change the whole arm( at bigger expense!)
 
Work now complete.

They originally thought it was a top suspension mount. But, when they removed this they found both dampers were also faulty. There was serious play between the piston and cylinder. At 18k miles I assume this is a manufacturing fault, but as it was under warranty not an issue.

So, both top mounts and dampers were replaced. There is no more "noise".

As they were replaced at the same time, i.e. mount and damper, they could not say what caused the noise. Sorry I can't be more help than that.

Regarding the dampers being faulty, might this have caused a harsh ride? My partner is always complaining about the ride quality but I always put it down to 18" wheels and no PASM.

One final issue is that the radio now does not work, CDR24. I only noticed this after I got home. When I switch it on, it just shows "Porsche". Could the reason be that when they reconnected the battery (I assume they disconnected it to do the work) they did not code something properly? It is going back to be looked at on Saturday.
 
thanks for update nick, i have 19 inches wheels on mine and just find ride " sporty" I think most roadsters feel like this , Porsche is better than most tho! hope you get your radio sorted, sure it will be!
 
Regarding the ride, I find it fine although the roads in the Thames Valley are not the best maintained in the world!!

Having driven a Cayenne Diesel for the last couple of days I now remember what a "soft" ride is like and I do not like it. I like to feel something is connected to the road, particlarly the steering wheels.
