Anyway, Lancelot, I am back from Millbrook, fabulous day out and terrific weather this afternoon.
I didnt go for high speed runs on the mile stright as I've done the 'mega numbers' on various big bikes so concentrated on acceleration techniques, heavy braking and vehicle control at the same time. Very impressed with this, you really should not be able to emergency stop from 80mph and still be able to steer almost like normal. Awesome.
Alpine circuit is terrific and I can see how Damon Hill made that Mike ???? ( cant remember his surname ) Bloke sick when he took him round on Pulling Power a few years ago !
Came away buzzing and still am now in fact after some dinner and a couple of cold 1664's back home.
Tell us about your turbo then......
Yves
Glad you enjoyed Millbrook. It's fun as well as good experience isn't it?
We had a magnificent trip. Flew to Stuttgart last Thursday, factory tour and collect on Friday, Mosel Valley drive Saturday and 8 laps of the 'Ring on Sunday before heading back to Calais and home.
Car spec. is as follows:-
Sunroof, top tint, sports chrono, adaptive sport seats (really good!) thicker steering wheel, short shift, extra sound.
Car is like driving an old friend but with more grunt and few extra driving aids. It's a fair bit stiffer even without the sports button pressed - handling and road holding are markedly improved. Michelin Pilot boots are sticky and work really well although high wear-rate may become a factor later.
Hope this potted rundown is of interest. I attach a photo of my car taken at Zuffenhausen on Friday.
Regards.

I like the GT3 but it's a bit too focused for general use in the lanes where I live in Devon. I've had 7 Porsches now and with one exception the latest has always been better than the previous. The 996 Turbo was certainly the best car I'd had at the time, but I think the 997 will top it by quite a margin!
Perhaps it just sounds quiet on the inside?!
I am also trying to decide like Yves whether to powerkit my C2S or trade up to the Turbo. The missing Turbo sports exhaust and PDK are making me wait though.
Can I ask whether you have mastered the quick gear changes yet?
When I tested the Turbo I kept hitting the rev limiter all the time. But if this is something quickly adapted to then the benefits of having the option of a limited slip diff may be worth forgetting about a PDK completely (which probably will have a fair few problems in its 1st generation anyway).
I don't think the Reading car was mine as I have only driven across from Folkstone to the West County. The car is currently at Exeter OPC and as I will be on holiday for a while, I won't be UK registering it until next month.
Road noise is quite acceptable inside the cabin, although some road surfaces do create tyre noise (Michelin Pilots) that can become a little intrusive.
The quick gear change is fabulous - a little stiff to begin with, but it soon loosens up and 8 laps of the Northschleife seemed to have improved things! I would also go for the adaptive sport seats. They are undoubtedly one of the best options I could have choosen.
I would forget the LSD, the PSM is more than adequate with 4WD traction and the level at which it kicks in is really very high. There's masses of torque from the engine so no real need to overdo the revs.
I had a C2 for 3 years - it's a great car, but technology has moved on apace and in my opinion the latest Turbo is light years ahead.

I went through the seat options and have picked the adaptive seats.
Undecided on whether to go to the ring or go via the Loire region of France.
Are the dealership OK with you delaying the UK registration of the car ? Mine have insisted its registered straight away..

They seemed to be a little unhappy although I can't imagine why - it's only a week after all! Anyway my cover note doesn't start until the 8th November so it's Hobsons choice!
Enjoy your trip. It's a great experience. Get onto www.nuerburgring.de for 'Ring opening times. The Mosel Valley and the Eisel mountains are good for sightseeing in any event. Good luck
Graham
