Found this bolt on my driveway,anyone recognise it?

I found this bolt and washer (together) on my driveway. It may have come off my S2. Any ideas where from? It is around 38mm long,9mm thick. The hex head is 14mm. It also has some factory thread lock on the threads. The threads are quite a fine pitch.The washer is a shouldered spacer. Hmm, difficult to tell but have you checked your front stabiliser mounts, both the hanger brackets and associated parts.

I think you have enough experience to make that call but it looks like it had red loctite on it and we know how much Porsche likes to use that....

Timmy - if it hasn't been used then perhaps a spare bolt left somewhere and finally dropped off.

Is it an eccentric washer or does it just look that way because its resting in the bolt?

At a guess power steering pump? How it mounted 2 the hanger

Would deff check that, snapped hanger means complete front strip down

Friend of mine found bolt like this on his drive - investigated and found if came of a Milk Float![&:]


He was divorced six months latter[]

The washer is flat with a step on it,as if to locate somewhere. There is a chance my puppy stole it from my bolt "bucket" as he took an interest in it after i found it.

That stepped washer could be significant ... given the fact that it seems to have the sort of grot on the head that is produced when oil leaks and gets dirty, my wild guess would be engine somewhere, and - as Terry says - possibly power steering pump/alternator/waterpump/belts area.

Daft Q, but is there anything obviously amiss with the car?

I have spent some time crawling about under my car today and cannot find anything amiss
I am going to go with the "puppy stole it out of my bolt bucket" explaination

With that stepped washer I would be looking at the alternator belt tension adjuster.

Doesn't the undertray use those locating washers? I know I've seen that sort of bolt/washer somewhere

The bolt pitch is far too fine for a Porsche boltfrom under the car, don't worry about it. I have seen underneath enough 944s to tell you what bolts go where blind folded. Don't sweat it!
