Forced ventilation to rear lights

I had seen the small pipe on the upper part large diameter trunking that houses the rear compartment blower. On my car it is not connected. Also I had seen that my rear lights and indeed Porsche name plate had condensation. So as I read in Porsche post this month, i need some 5 mm washer hose or similar to replace what has been lost. Is the connector on the rear lights easy to find and do I need to do any cleaning out to allow the air to flow through and do its job and do I need two or even three pipes to connect to the nearside the offside and the name plate badge?
 
Yes you'll need some 5mm hose to connect from the output side of the blower to the centre section of the rear lights. When you take it out you'll find the nipple that it connects to.
You'll also find 2 small lengths of hose that feed through to each quarter light to keep them fresh also.
 
The rear lights (left and right) on the 1990 cars are different from the 91 and later lights. 1990 lights were not vented on the outside (top of the light that is). Condensation was a big problem then. To get rid of it you need the hose (as said, easy to find) and the later version of the tail lights..
 
Ah ha... that explains then why the earlier rear corner lights had an all round seal (and needed further venting) whereas later the surround didn't...

Next question then (sorry to hijack KT)... Why just the other day I have now got slight condensation on the inside of rev counter glass - annoying...

Marcus, my car gets that if it has been in the garage for a while and not driven. It's a good idea in such circumstances to leave a window open slightly to stop this happening.
You'll find it'll clear after you've been on a run with the heater on.

That explains it Dave - thanks. Yup, with the stupid weather recently it's been sat there covered up in the garage. Took it up the road Saturday to see how far Silverstone was and I noticed it then.

Getting to that time of the year now to perform the little checks and tidy's before more regular use. My o/s rear light has some slight condensation so will check the same pipes as above...

Quite common on all "˜older' 911 and other Porsche, in my experience.
 
Cheers Paul. Going with the hope as Dave mentioned re the motor not being used recently. Had this one coming up to a couple of years now with no prev condensation and then another 964 before this one, again with no problem... Seems I need to get out and about more!

Hi Marcus, off topic, but will you be getting out and about at Le Mans this year?

 
Yes Colin... A house move to outside of London same time of the year forced me to sit out last year. Looking forward to this year. It's a bit of a given really - Porsche LMP1 and Mark Webber and the Vipers are back too... will see you there?
