Here's a quick piture of the latest additon to my collection, for when I'm not in either of my Porsches. Just thought I add a picture "off topic" for the 944 forum for a change.

Beautiful. It may say Ghibli II on the boot but its still a BiTurbo underneath, so you pick the direction and the car will decide how far... [:D]

De Tomaso made some front engined cars which actually looked like Ford Granadas! I give you the Longchamp

When I had more money than sense I was tempted by a number of Ghiblis and Shamals (Shamals were always too dear though), along with countless BiTurbos. Ropey but presentable BiTurbos went down to around £1,000 at one point.

Theres a pretty Ghibli II on PH for around £10,000...
 
It's a Ghibli Cup, of which about 20 of the 26 right hand drive examples built still exist. So it has the 2 litre 330 bhp engine, Brembo brakes, adjustable suspension and so on. It was built as the road-going version of the one-make race series car, the Ghibli Open Cup.

I took it around a very wet Goodwood a month back, something that you wouldn't want to do with an old biturbo or indeed a Shamal. Not unless you wanted to smack the tyre wall that is!

Graham - the car behind (under the cover) is a 458.

The 2 litre bit is something to do with Italian tax laws I think. You can buy a 308 style Ferrari with a 2 l engine too (208?)

My point was that I was surprised that a non-Italian market Cup car used an Italian market engine. Everywhere used a 2.8l V6, whereas all Italian BiTurbos used a tax friendly 2.0l version.

The old man used to own a standard one as well as the more rare Ghibli Cup.

He had a 228 prior to them, and that was bloody fast enough itself!

Enjoy - be careful though, you can't drive them in the same manner as a Porsche... haha [:D]

 
Friend used to run Bi- Turbos in the '80s, used to always have 2 as one was always in the workshop!

The Ghibli II is a very different and lovely thing!
 
The Ghibli II is a 968 to the BiTurbos 944S2. Without a doubt one of my favourite cars and a few years ago I came very close to buying one. I was looking for a Shamall but they were too dear and I also looked at and drove a couple of 32v Mondials. In the end I came to my senses and bought an Impreza!
 
The 2 litre engine is lighter and smaller, and could therefore be set back further towards the bulkhead, aiding weight balance. It also has 50 bhp more than the heavier 2.8 litre engine that was used as standard in the uk ghibli GT. This is my third Ghibli, and my second Cup, and is by far the best of the breed.

Problem free? Haha...

No, they had their issues (as with all cars), just very expensive to repair.

My Dad still says the Ghibli was one of the best cars he's owned though.
