For when i'm not in my Porsches

Likewise I came close to targeting one of these but the stories of having to pay huge sums for things such as new wings scared me off.

Ewan have you got the cool 3 piece wheels for that one stashed away somewhere?

Simon I shouldn't say it but the much more modern suspension design than our cars was one of many attractive features on these [:D]

Ewan,
Interesting post, I dont know what to say, it's nice - is faint praise, I'm a bit surprised for sure, painter did a good job of the wall, but I'd change the Yellow to Atlas Grey, or just plain Why?
I do confess that the growl of a V6 Alfa GTV from about 1983 had an effect on my heart rate.....and an Integrale always held a certain appeal. The Group B S4 was spoilt by misfortune......and a Fiat 131 Mirafiori in full works trim with Herr Rohrl at the wheel was a cracking combination...
I never quite got there with Italian cars, and probably never will now, but, help me understand - why?

That looks stunning. I remember many times visiting a garage not far from me who had a succession of slightly tatty biturbos in and I always had a nose around them. I hesitate to ask, but aren't they known for getting a bit, ahem, 'toasty' (I fear this might be a bit like asking an Elise owner if they've had a head gasket replaced recently [:)]).

The Super Beetle was cutting edge in its day Neil! [:D]

Id heard similar body horror stories too. The BiTurbo certainly had leaded panels which means that youre probably dealing with coachbuilders, rather than body shops fellows with all of the cost that such craftmanship demands.

I could learn to lead load of course, but the cost of a mechanical mishap could have bankrupted me, even when my budget was up to £15,000 for a car and £10,000 just in case. The same was true with a Mondial as well, of course, but it seemed more likely with a Ghibli II and theres far more indie support for Ferrari too.

Ewan, I had completely overlooked the engineering reason for fitting the 2.0l V6 engine, presuming only that it was more highly stressed and therefore even more likely to have a turn.

Anyone else got any cool non-pork hobby cars?Pics?
I really like the Maserati by the way..quirky !

Hi Neil - I do indeed have the three-part original split rims (from Speedline) tucked away. But they need a refurb and a full set of new boots. The wheels I have on it now (from a Maserati 3200 gt) are an inch bigger (at 18) so fill the blistered arches that little bit more. They're easier to clean also[:)]

And in response to George - I'm not sure exactly what it is about Italian cars that draws me in, but the looks, sound, heritage, style and speed all play there part. From the 944's I drove in my mid 20's (20 years ago) I moved on to Maseratis such as the Ghibli, QP (mk IV), 3200, 4200 and QP (mk V), Ferraris such as the 355 and 456, and Lamborghinis such as the Diablo 5.7 VT and 6.0 VT. It's only in the last couple of years that I've bought back into the Porsche brand and added my 944 turbo and 996 C4 to my collection.

And before anyone asks, nothing compares with the noise, speed, shape and drama of the 6.0lt Diablo. So if I had to chose just one, that would be it.

Somehow I guess the grill from my p38 rangie that I painted at the weekend doesn't qualify as remotely cool compared Ewan's Italian mistress [:D]

What about this then.

Hands up who has seen one then!

I do use it hence it isn't very clean!

Not my car but been involved in turbocharging an E39 M5, after lots of work and thinking we eventually put it on the rollers today and got 500bhp and 520 lbs.ft.
Makes me wonder why I spend so much into my 944T - there really is no replacement for cubic inches.

I'm sticking with a year 1988. Was young then and had more hair. My both hobby cars are model year '88. Eldest son was born that year as well
