Flatnose turbo

Hi to all,
just joined the club and wondering if any other members are familiar with, or have any knowledge of, a titanium rear exhaust box fitted to a 1986 original right hand drive flatnose turbo? I acquired the car at the end of 2015 and believe it had several modifications to uprate its performance that was carried out in London (still waiting to receive the paperwork). Any other information regarding this vehicle, registration number A11 OGS, which is currently undergoing a full restoration, would be very welcome. Thanking you all in advance.

Hi Andrew, i also have an '86 car like yours ..........it has a 'sports exhaust' from new with 4 small pipes ; the shiny case wrapped around on the silencer box has a manufacturers plate .......i have never been aware of the material any of it was made of, i have doubts that any of it is Titanium.

if your looking for a replacement Porsche could nt help and i made enquiries at the well known Hayward & Scott................while it would have looked correct from the rear,they wanted to change h /exchangers and other pipes ,total IRO £2500

i found a local metalworker [Hertfordshire] who managed to repair original for a lot less and maintain originality .............you do mention modifications ,i wonder where your exhaust comes from ?

Hello, I have a H&S system not cheap but excellent fit and go no worries come MOT time either.
Nice growl sound as well not OTT.
Bonus sold my old system for £1200 tip if you do let them fit it. If you do later on go down that route.

I needed a sports exhaust back in 2000 for my LE which has the same sports system as you; I contacted Porsche Guildford and was quoted £2,500.00 I think plus vat. I then contacted Freisinger Motorsport in Germany, they stated they had a perfect 2^nd hand one for 900.00 ouch! The Original is mild steel!
I went to Hayward & Scott with my old silencer and discussed options, they did a stainless steel silencer but could not match the 2 x outlet pipes on the right, I stated can you cut my pipes off and connect to your stainless steel silencer, they said yes all for £ 450.00 plus vat.
This is some 15 years ago and the silencer is still in perfect condition

That would look hideous both sides must match and look original!
I have attached a photo of my original sports exhaust taken in 1999 and a recent photo showing the Hayward & Scott which is now some 15 years old!

I had to make that choice on my Hayward&Scott system. I went for the stock look myself on mine.

Each to there own, I did not want a section cut out for the other pipes on the other side of the car.

The biggest worry, I found was the unknown factor what will the system sound like once fitted on my car?
In the end a nice growl, sound not ott so happy just not cheap as you all know.

Thanks for the replies' which have been gratefully received. I have since rectified that problem by having a stainless steel box made to the exact specifications of whats on there now, which is a single outlet out of each side. I have also been informed that I will need to change all 4 tyres and despite literally hours on google, the club, main dealers I have drawn a blank. Would anyone be kind enough to let me now what tyre to fit as standard? Currently they are 205/55/16 on the front and 245/45/16 on the back. Look forward to your reply. Thanks

As suggested your exhaust is modified , do you still have standard heat exchangers ?
some were evolved to give better spool up .....
if wheels are standard 205 55 16 and 245 45 16

Yes, it seems to be a modified exhaust box from the picture I was sent as I couldn't find a match anywhere. Believe the car has had some upgrades which hopefully I will know more about in a weeks time when I collect the documentation.

Mechanically /engine wise LE in picture and SE the same .......LE had 5 speed box, your car will have left the factory with 4 speed

couple of cars had special cams and produced 350 bhp, not ' 86 year cars

as yours left the factory with , 4 pipe stainless steel exhaust and standard heat exchangers , large intercooler,large turbo, front oil cooler it would have 330 bhp over a standard 3.3 at 300bhp

your box sills should be aluminium, these and the front wings plus slats in rear wings will have been hand made by one guy when your chassis was taken off the 3.3 production line .............under the sills u will find 3 retaining brackets .....one of them will have a stamped 'job' number for that work , it also appears elsewhere but hard to see or find

I have now attached the photo taken last year ( could not upload any photo's for a couple of days!) of the sports silencer manufactured by Hayward & Scott which is now some 15 years old and in perfect condition ( could do with a polish though!) when you think the original mild steel silencer was only 11 years old when it needed replacing. The H & S silencer looks like a completely original sports silencer but manufactured in stainless steel and without the heavy Porsche price of well over £2,500.00 and also sounds great! With prices as they are, I think myself the finish should look standard. The HP has also not changed

Just a small point-5 speed gearbox was only fitted to 930, SE & LE was only available for 1989 model year

not quite sure what u mean about the 5 speeds , there were 9 flat nose ,cabriolets in 1989 with 5 speed from factory, also 1 targa that may be a 5 speed

All 50 LE s have 5 speed ........there maybe some SE coupe with 5 speed but never actually seen one ????

Only the 1989MY 930s had the 5 speed box from the factory.
Regarding the OPs 930, and original query; if it's the 930 targa in your avatar, is it a factory slant nose, or an aftermarket conversion?
If it's the one in the picture, and a conversion, then it's likely to be from Dage Sport / G Force Motorsport.
I've owned a couple of DS935s, and the twin exhaust outlets shown in the avatar look like the Billy Boat Performance Exhaust items that G Force brought in from the USA - a very well designed high output system.
