first track day - gratuitous pics

Small touch of sarcasm??? [:-]

Martyn - no not at all mate, my apologies I think I/we may have fallen foul of forum messages not being able to convey the real message sometimes.

If you'd have seen my face when I typed 'wow!' you'd have been left in no doubt I didn't mean any scarcasm.

Perhaps I should have been more verbose as I usually am: I meant wow a 993TT in my favourite 993 colour and it looks in concours condition...

Did you have any problems with noise ? last time I was there in my 993t it recorded 94 db, the limit was 87 db, I was so far over they did not give me a second chance. The exhaust is standard, just got the 100 cell cats.

Aparently I just passed Ken - which I found strange as the car is quiet at speed compared to most other cars e.g. GT3's, 993 carreras, M3's etc - all of which were at Bedford that day.

I think the 993tt is at a disadvantage because it's quite loud and meaty at idle and when you rev the car though not under load - i.e. in neutral as they ask you to do on entry. But it's then quiet on the move under load with the turbos muffling everything?

I'm currently running standard cats with cargraphic mufflers. I have some 100 cell techart mufflers to be fitted this month so I just hope I'm ok with those AND the cargraphics. 2 chaps I know have been running the same setup and have been ok at bedford so fingers crossed.

BTW - what cats are you running and are you happy with them?

I passed the noise test on the static, it was the drive past that caused a problem. I'm just woundering whether it was a combination of tyre squeal and induction noise, I'm using k16 hybrids giving over 500 bhp.

The 100 cell cats were put in the standard exhaust system by Miltek.

I'm more than happy with the car, it goes like stink, not the ideal track car, it's very heavy round the corners and you have to clear the corner before you can open it up, then it's huge acceleration. I also have a GT3 which I use on the track which is much easier to drive.

My apologies also Kenny, I thought the wow was sarcastic due to the motionless aspect of the vehicle in the photo!

The car is in very good condition, but not close to concours - I use it too much for that...

Are you doing the trek to Le Mans this year?

Wish I was going to Le Mans Martyn - no can do. I'm getting married this year and even the odd early morning jaunt to North Yorkshire is met with 'You haven't got time to go driving, we've got wedding stuff to do today!'

Next year hopefully. You going?

Thanks Phil - yeah mpg went pretty mental though I could have easily been harder on the car, guess I should ready myself for the 4mpg next time!

Would be great to see another 993tt at a track day - rare sight these days eh.

Great pic from Spa - I've heard it's an amazing circuit? Would love to do it one day. Also good to see keeping the young upstarts behind you! [;)]

Here is a picture from my visit to spa a couple of years ago:

Definitely best circuit I've driven - great shot of Eau Rouge Ken. According to Graham Clarke of RMA it's not possible for a 911 to go flat through Eau Rouge without ending up in the wall. Anyone claim to have done it? I certainly didn't...

Yep, I've done it, Graham's right !

just imagining coming down that hill and powering up the bend - it does look an amazing place even from one photo.

That reminds me - must get those new brake discs fitted!

It is amazing, the track guide recommends a deep breath at the bottom of the hill, I think that says it all.

Tuition is a must for first timers at Spa

Great read. Have done a few track days in my previous track toy but looking forward to doing a few in my TT.

993 Turbo, 997 Turbo, 996 GT3 RS
