First Porsche, first problem

I have just bought a 1983 944 and need to tow it out of where it's sat. Yes I'm starting at the bottom end of the market..

So I found the hole for the tow eye bhind the rubber pad on the bumper but the eye is missing. Can anyone please tell me what thread it is? I can make up an eye once I have the right bolt.

should be in the tool roll in the rear with the spare wheel.
Keep us upto date with progress
sorry dont know thread size.

Nick

It isnt a common thread. Towing eyes only cost a little over £10 from your local OPC, so thats probably your best option.

Thank you. The owner said he couldn't find it but I'll go back with my wellies and look in the boot, the back end's sat in a stinking marsh. It's sounding worse and worse isn't it..

Lol, we are going to want pictures here!

Where are you? There might be a local owner who could help out. More importantly, they could possibly give you an idea whether it's a viable project, or if you could buy a better car that's not going to cost you loads of time and money. [:)]

I'm in north Cornwall, I have seen a few 944s around here, if someone could lend me a tow eye that would be great.

To be honest the car's so cheap I'll just drag it back and have a good look over it. It was driven in to where it is two years ago with a leaky oil cooler and has sat since. It's filthy, the clutch cylinder(s) are leaking and it's sat on 924s wheels but I've rescued worse.

Good luck. I hope it turns out to be a viable project for you.

I know Paul has already said, but we do need pics[8D]

Thanks. I have never heard of a knuckle thread. I think I'll borrow an eye for the minute or improvise. I've just remembered there's a garage near me that always has several older Porches sat around, I'll go see them.

I'll take some pictures when I go and exhume the poor thing. It's not a pretty sight right now. I'm just hoping it's not rotten. I've had enough of rust, I drive an old Discovery..

Thanks for the tip. I borrowed a Porsche one today. I'll be collecting the car this weekend coming so I'll get some pictures up.

Where in North Cornwall are you? I'm based unfortunately near Camborne be nice to meet have a few people about down here I feel isolated lol. I know there is a turbo being rebuilt in redruth as though got to send a text and see how thats coming along :)

I finally got to pick my new car up today. It went really smoothly, no seized brakes and only one flat tyre.

I'm in lovely Launceston, for now. There's a few 944's round here but I don't know anyone into them.

I thought the wheels were 924, they don't fit properly anyway. Cookie cutters are what it needs!
