First Drive and photo opportunity

The demonstrator I saw being delivered to Porsche Centre Wilmslow on March 13 was given its first outing for a photo session and a short test drive.

Anthony Harding kindly gave me the opportunity to get the feel of it before the customer test drives.

Comparing the 992 with my 50th Anniversary highlights the vast changes and is easily recognisable especially from the rear end view.

I only had a 15 minute drive but it is awesome and I love the new look.

I drove the 992 C2S yesterday and liked it very much. []

The cabin is sharp and modern and the graphics are crystal clear and reasonably intuitive (if you're acquainted with Porsche already). The ledge across the front of the dash is a little weird and the cup holder had been removed to improve the atheistic! []

My car had the redesigned 14-way seats with heating and venting. These were comfortable, supportive and easy to access - even with my bulky frame! [8|] Mechanically, there was no RWS, but the car did have PDCC which was very effective with the Sports Chrono option fitted.

The chassis has a great front end - pointier than its predecessor - and the suspension set-up is greatly improved with reduced bump steer at high speed over undulating roads. Road noise is still a 911 issue on certain surfaces, but has been reduced slightly on this new model.

Handling is rather anodyne, but road holding is good with a slight tendency to understeer that would undoubtedly be reduced with the RWS option. The engine is utterly responsive, has no discernible turbo lag and is immense in Sports + mode, dropping 3 gears for safe overtaking manoeuvres.

The 992 does the job very well indeed as a comfortable, high performance sports tourer and I'm sure new owners are going to be delighted with their new acquisitions. []

I had bournemouths demonstrator for the afternoon and was prepared to be underwhelmed.
but I was staggered at just how good it was
standard cooking C2S
i did miss the cup holders,like Chris Harris mentioned??but apart from that all was excellent.
i echo Clive’s comments on ergonomics and handling- and especially liked the new 3D maps one large centrally and one smaller available to the right of the Rev counter.
altogether a big step up from 991.2 - even the exhaust note seemed better and overall I felt much more involved in the car

Hi Mike
I should have kept the original order instead of changing it to a cabriolet in Dolomite Silver!
There seems to be a few recalls especially on the cabs and I saw a pile of silver bits in the parts bin last week!
Brilliant trip to Stuttgart and Leipzig though.
