Mines in for major service next week at porschetek in Leeds, think they'll check the fuel lines as routine or should I ask specifically?
I think it's unlikely they'll check the bit that matters.
It's always been the part where the line passes over the rear beam that has rotted in the past, easy to spot and any decent indie would be spraying it to protect it each year. They need to take the wheel arch liner out to check the front pipes, which isn't part of the usual service.
Personally, I'd be thinking about changing it as a precaution anyway. Mine has new braided lines throughout, I think I'd be paranoid if it didn't. If you're taking the liner out to have a look, remember to clean out the lower wing and treat it whilst you're in there. [

Now we can argue about the actual timing just like cam belts... for safety, I think I'll change mine at every 15 years, some will probably say that is far too long[

It's a good point. So many parts are likely to be failing on a car that was designed well over 30 years ago, yet we are surprised that we need to change them. I wonder how many contemporary cars are still running original fuel lines? I suspect not many. The bullet-proof build quality of the cars is sometimes a bad thing, as we somehow expect every bit to last forever. [&:]

I have just done this very thing, I noticed fuel dripping from the fuel line last week as it disappears into the front wheel arch liner, I whipped the liner out & had a look & sure enough above the rubber pipe holder bolted to the drivers side inner wing the fuel line is nice & dry, below it, wet with fuel, on removing the rubber pipe clamp its evident the rubber traps moisture & slowly eats away at the pipe, my car must have the original pipes in place as there is no break in the line all the way from the front to the back, Porsche now supply 2 piece pipes ( 4 if you include the return pipe), ive ordered a replacement set of 4 from Porsch-a-part they have 3 at the shop, just waiting on 1 which is on back order from Germany, should be here in the next few days, I managed to catch this before disaster struck, my advice to any 944 owner is get those pipes checked before its too late, we are losing valuable cars due to fire recently caused by this very thing, i'd hate to hear of any more.
