faulty alarm?

Hi,

New here so hello to everyone.

First small problem with my '02 996 C4.

Alarm fob stopped operating car alarm and central locking, although red light flashing on fob.

Replaced fob battery but no joy.

Not a big problem as I can open/close car with key except, when I do turn key to open door (before door opened), alarm is immediately activated.

Once alarm is sounding I can switch it off by inserting key in ignition and turning to position 1.

Car starts runs normally, just looks like I'm stealing it every time I jump in.

User manual suggests I should have 10 seconds to insert key in ignition to prevent alarming sounding, but this is not my case.

All suggestions welcome before trip to OPC.

It could be that your battery is getting low. Mine did roughly this when my battery was nearly dead...
 
I've recently purchased a '99 C4 which exhibited the same symptoms after 9 days of non-use. Is 5 days some sort of cut-off to save battery power or something else?
 
After 5 days of non-use the alarm system stops looking for the remote to save battery power. The car must think you are never coming back.

After 5 days the car shuts down less vital systems to save battery power. One of these is the receiver that detects the signal from the key in order to disable the alarm and unlock the doors. So, after 5 days the key button will not open the car.

You have to turn the key in the lock GENTLY, to unlock the door. This will re-activate the receiver (etc) and unlock the door but it won't de-activate the alarm. So, you then re-lock the car with the key button, and unlock it with the key button. You now have an unlocked car with the alarm disabled.

I call it the neglect sensor. Ignore the car and it gets sad, and cries when you come back. Touching, really [;)]
 
Oh no, not another manic depressive animal in the family. So its just like our dog then, goes all miserable when you go on holiday and sulks when you get back
 
Thanks for suggestions but I'm sure this is not the alarm going into sleep mode.
If I lock the car with key, wait 30 seconds, then unlock door the alarm sounds immediately.
The user manual states if you unlock car with key, you have 10 seconds to deactivate alarm using ignition lock.
Is this 10 seconds programmable?
