exhaust heat shield

New member
Being new to this forum, I searched possibly incorrectly but could not find any threads on "exhaust heat shield". Changing my son's 944 (1989, 2.7) engine oil for the first time, on removing the oil filter, the heat shield that sits behind it and under the manifold is completely detached and floating about. presumably this is not uncommon. Seems impossible to remove it without removing the manifold, and also it is not clear how it was fixed and what to. The 944 spare parts listing and workshop manuals do not seem to show it at all. Anyone had this problem and resolved it?? A link to previous threads on this topic would be appreciated and apologies if it's an old chestnut with a million postings that I managed to fail to find....
 
Call your local main dealer they should be able to source one and you may be surprised price wise, i do not think it is a manifold of job without looking. Jim.
 
Mine was loose on my 2.7 and I just left it. It is a pig to get too and involves removing either the manifold or the oil cooler.
 
Get my email Jim? Got to sort my SORN out tomorrow and then get the spanners and wallet out too!
 
I like the "leave it alone" solution - it doesn't even rattle, and I only noticed it when I removed the oil filter. Many thanks for the instant and helpful responses - I am newly returned to the club having previously owned a 924 turbo (in 1982-4) then a series of 911SC Coupes. That was all in pre-internet days and goodness me it would have been useful to have this superb forum facility back then!
