Exhaust / Heat exchangers

My heat-exchangers are looking very tatty and the heat in to the cabin seems a lot less then last year. Presumably, the condition of the heat exchangers will not affect the engines performance, nor become a safety issue, unless the actual exhausts starts blowing fumes in to the cabin via the heat exchangers? Is this the case?

Jeff I say this after 19 years of Porsche flat-six ownership, if your exchangers are shot and you think the expense is worth it buy yourself some SSI heat exchangers and a 2in 2out exhaust. Chances are your heat exchangers are shot and NOT your headers so all the hot air is escaping into the atmosphere and it won't be killing you! I have had exchangers welded in the past but the ultimate solution is SSIs for an SC. Email me if you are stuck.

Thanks Bones, think I'll pencil it in for next summer. Drive the car every day so I'll get the thermals out or get one of those plug in heaters I've read about.

Plug in heater?.....Tell me more Jeff, if such a thing exists and works then I could get rid of those pesky heat exchangers and have headers only . Even more weight dissapearing from the project.
