Exceptional bodyshop or metalworker needed around Norfolk/Suffolk

OK I have been playing with the car today, offering up the 924 Turbo nose grill I recently purchased now I was prepared for a bit of a gap across the leading edge but this is too much for me, I want the grilles but I cannot live with this gap and im not impressed with the fibreglass variants either

Even in this picture its not quite far enough back, sooooo I need someone with exceptional metalworking skills to cut out the vents and weld them into a genuine 944 nose panel, I want it to keep its original curve like in this picture below.

Can anyone recommend a metal guru laround this part of the world?

Isn't there a good one in Norwich that now advertises in 911 & P. World. Will go and fish out the advert....

Norfolk Premier Coachworks in Norwich are pretty amazing. Make anything Porsche out of a bit of flat metal! Had an R12 (Norfolk and Suffolk) trip there and we were all impressed. See http://www.porschenorfolk.co.uk/.

Itll need brazing because the metal is too thin to weld. Youll end up ruining the 931 badge panel, as well as the 951 panel that youre trying to alter.

The only real option, I think, is to find a better quality GRP badge panel, to fit a 951, with 931 style cut outs.

In my opinion though, they dont look right, as theres over ten years between the cars and the styles dont match. If you need to get more air in then how about a single inlet? Are you sure that this is a well thought through plan? I ask because you appear to have expected that an early weld on 924 badge panel (possibly bolt on, but theyre very, very rare) will suit a Turbo nose, and as youve discovered, they dont.

ps. In my experience this fellows GRP is much batter than the usual GTRacing/rubbish type: http://teilecar.com/?559,frontblech-front-panel-gfk-grp-porsche-944-s2-turbo-951

You can cut the holes into the standard panel NZ951 posted a template on rennlist about 5 years ago to help with positioning.

It is a bolt on panel and I knew fitment would never be great but that's much worse than I was expecting. The second picture I have posted is a combination of 951 and 931 welded together. I looked at that fibreglass panel and if you look closely at it the finish is not all that special, the cut outs do not appear to quite line up plus the grilles they use are not a flush fit, they sit proud of the nose panel and look like a cheap after thought.

I know its not everyones taste but its what I want and to make it look right im happy to pay someone who's metalwork skill's are much better than mine. The metal is not that thin, no thinner really than other car bodywork I have welded before and the 931 already has two spot welds on the back from the nose badge delete.

Cheers Brian, Im actually working not far from them tomorrow so i might pop in and have a chat with them.

Fair enough Scott. Dont spoil a weld on 931 badge panel though, theyre far from common and itd be a travesty to ruin one when you could equally use a hacked off weld on part.

Im adamant that youd be better off brazing though. As an aside, thats how Porsche/AUDI fixed the roof panel on to your car too.

If you have a bolt on 931 badge panel then best not butcher it. They are pretty damn rare. I would buy it from you and swap it with a welded one cut off a car. In fact I gave away my welded on panel earlier this year that I cut off my car as I now have an OEM bolt on.

I think the four vents look far better than the single slot GRP versions. Seek out photos of Bennyboys car. Awesome looking

Do you have a weld on panel handy? Bennyboys car did inspire me.

I went here today and wow what a place, bare metal 911's and 356's being tapped lovingly with metalworking hammers [8D]

Much of the bare metal they shaped themselves, though you would never know! Hope you found them a useful contact.

Oh I have his business card tucked safely in my wallet. I spoke to my paintshop today (he paints a lot of Bentleys) and he recommended them too.

Let us know what they quote in due course, as I'd love a panel such as that for my Turbo.

Hi Scott,

I noticed your're on the `Norfolk/Suffolk' border, how far are you away from Lowestoft? can't help with the bodywork, but would be nice to meet a fellow 944 enthusiast !
