Engine sweating oil..

Hi

I have a 996 1998 C4. The engine is starting to sweat oil. I have attached a pic.

Anyone know what that might be, should I be concerned??

The first pic looks pretty clean to me but the second one is more obvious.
The oil looks clean, so it hasn't been there long enough to catch dust and dirt from the road. It has a tendency to travel 'down-wind' so it may from RMS or IMS end cap. It could also be a cracked or porous sump. Whichever - I would get it checked over as it looks quite fresh.

Hi Flemming, I had the same in my old '98 C2 and it was the gasket for the solenoid cover as shown in your first pic with the cable coming out. I changed it myself with no experience and the issue was solved. Naturally I had to clean down the engine just to make sure it was sorted. It's just my opinion but looks as though its coming from there. Good luck. John.
 
I wouldn't take any chances until porsche indie checks it. The statement of Ims sends a shiver down me shaft. Gravity sends everything down can you get any pics from above what you have post. If no ramps can you hang the rear over a Kera to get right underneath?

There are plenty of indies down the M4 corridor; Hillcrest, Peter Tognola and Northways. All have good reputation.
