engine problems since servicing '76 930

Hi,
I have a very sick 930 since I let a local german guy give my engine the once over. It sound like it runs on only a few cyls when started. Some time it may run ok, will never restart after cooling for a few hours. I have also reason to believe dirty petrol has entered the tank. Anyone interested in advising me what to do?
I plan to have the filter out and the tank too. It the filter in the left side of the engine bay the only fuel filter?
thanks in advance to anyone who will discuss this with me
I check this forum at work and may leave it loggen on overnight so my response may be very slow
cheers

Sorry Frank, I've no knowledge the 930 - someone should be along soon or if you haven't already you could try rennlist.

Hope you get it sorted.

A couple of things to check, as you obviously already suspect contamination in the fuel system:
Both fuel pumps - one at front, one at rear.
All fuel injectors.
There is a non return valve in the system to keep it pressurised when stopped - failure of this can lead to real difficulty with hot starts.
Bottom line as with all things 930 is that it is probably better to get it checked over by someone who knows and understands turbocharged 911s - it tends to save money in the long run.
Whereabouts are you?
Cheers

thanks for such a quick reply
I am in Donegal( north west of Ireland)
As an example of what its doing these days. I started it last night and it ran like on only 3cyls, sounded terrible but didn't conk. Smoked a lot too of course. Returned 15 minutes later and she started up fine and purred away fine
2 hours later it wouldn't start at all
This engine used to run beautiful every time without problems( other than a hot start issue twice in two years)
Do you know how much a filter costs for my car?
I will try to take the car to someone who specialises
I am a young ( not rich) owner enthusiast who may struggle with costs here
where roughly is the non return vlave
thanks for your help, please check in again

Get hold of that book: 101 Projects for your Porsche 911.... you'll find lots of bits that are relevant to your car, and you will be able to work out what you can tackle yourself and what you absolutely have to get specialist help with.
It will also be worth your while checking in on the US Rennlist Forum - they take their 930s very seriously over there.
Have fun!

Hello again Frank.

You might want to buy a Haynes manual too. They don't make one for the 930 but it is for the 911 upto '85.

The 930 is simliair to the 911 SC in many ways apart from the obvious. It will help you to learn about the car.
