I'm considering changing both engine mounts on my '91 turbo.

Does anyone know how long it should take a specialist to replace old mounts with with new?

 
Far, far longer on a Turbo than a normally aspirated car. I believe that Jon Mitchell quoted me four hours, if nothing broke or seized.
 
aha - back to estimates again....

I did one of these in my garage, lying on my back under the car. I never want to do another.. nothing was seized, but it's really tricky to get the mounts out ( and harder to get the new, taller ones in )

After that I saw alasdairs how to thread on here - dropping the steering rack and cross member. the long way but probably much quicker for the home mechanic. I wish I'd seen it first

In my opinion, a garage that does thus regularly, with the car on a lift, should do this in under 4 hours.

Find a garage with a cheap hourly rate - I wouldnt want to pay £75+vat for a job like this.

Did mine with the engine out. But if I was to do it again I would drop the cross-member. I cant see it taking 4 hours though.On the floor and using stands etc I think I could do it quicker than 4 hours.
 
Not done a turbo as my car is an S2. You need a fair bit of equipment though if you want to do it by dropping the cross-member. You need to have an engine crane or a support bar to hold the engine up. Then drop everything out the bottom.
The way I would do it is by holdingthe car up on stands under the chassis rails. Then remove the under-trays and the bat wing. Then undo and remove the pinch bolt on the top of the steering column.Then unbolt the top four bolts on the struts and the bolts holding the crossmember and rear bolts on the arms.Then drop the whole thing down a bit. Then undo the engine mounts and replace then put everything back.
Easy!!!!!!!

Well is makes it sound easy....
 
Engine mounts on a Turbo are a far more difficult proposition, hence the longer time quoted.
