Engine cooling fan on a lot

My engine cooling fan on the drivers (right-hand) side is on a lot. Even if I let the car cool for a couple of hours and then switch the engine on, the drivers-side fan comes on for a few minutes. Are there two engine cooling fans? I've read that there is also one on the passenger (left-hand) side as well but i've never heard this one.
