Engine characteristic info please

I've had my 2001 2.7 boxster for almost 2 years now, I absolutely love it but made the cardinal sin of buying the first I saw! Guards red, low miles, FSH, I was smitten. Its now just under 80K, had a major service at Porsche Sidcup (excellent) at 75K and going great. I've noticed that if I accelerate moderately there is a kick at just over 3 thousand revs, I had a Mk1 Golf GTI that did the same. I'd like to know if this is normal? If I accelerate 'enthusiastically' I don't feel the kick.

I think it's a "feature" of these cars. Most probably due to some DME tune aimed at reducing part-throttle emissions, etc. and affecting driveability adversely.

Nothing to be concerned about - just keep on enjoying the car.

Probably the Variable Valve timing change spot in the rev range?
VarioCam I think they called it back then. (Without digging my Owners Manual out, so might not be totally correct!)
 
You could spend fortune finding out what it is
Maybe take it back to Sidcoop (!) and say you have only noticed it since the service !!
I presume you got the special Service price with POCGB discount - around 490.00
Must admit the service stamp is worth a lot.
I have just posted some info on another Post about Clearing out Crud behind the bumper and and also making sure the drain holes are clear. Suggest you look at this as it could save you a fortune and is unlikely to have been done on a well maintained POC Boxster

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. Just going to enjoy the ride [:)]. As far as the OPC servicing, I found the price comparable to the specialists, they are close to me and easy to get to, the overall experience was great and to top it off they gave me the choice of a boxster, cayman or macan as a courtesy car which I kept overnight! Happy days.
