I'm in need of some technical elecritcal help please!

Im having some issues with the headlight lifting, turn the knob and the lights light up but don't lift, also interior lights don't illuminate and fog lights now won't switch on. I have fitted a tested headlight switch hoping that would solve the issue and I have also just fitted a tested relay for lift motor. I have tested the lift motor and that works fine.

i had just finished of fitting the dash trim back on after re-coving the dash vinyl when I noticed the issue, I have removed everything again and checked all connections and can't see anything obvious?

the fog lights control and interior dash lights are all controlled from the headlight switch so was really hoping the new switch would fix it!!

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Phil

Jiggle the ignition switch while testing as a worn ignition switch causes all sorts of strange things

Ok yea will do, didnt think of that - I guess the interior lights and fog lights won't work unless igniion is in correct position.

the interior light does not require any ignition switch position as it comes on when you open the door, long before the key gets near the switch

Your car, if it is the 87 car, has a dim dip relay system, designed to pop up the headlights on sidelights and supply a reduced voltage to the headlights in this position.

If your car never did raise its headlights on sidelight setting, it is possible that someone has bypassed the dim dip system under the dash and in the fuse box with the location jumper relay. If so, you might have disturbed something.

When you convert them away from dimdip, one of the steps is to remove the dim dip box and jumper the location relay... However, unexpected scenarios can happen if your car is not converted to non dip dip, yet the dim dip relay has become disturbed or has a bad contact. This is a scenario I have never looked into, but in your case is worth checking.

Other than that, check the relay and wiring connector on the side of the headlight motor is fine and pushed in properly.
