Electric Windows - Advice please, looks like an imminent fail to me

As the title says, today I was out replacing the window weather strips (look nice now) and I had a quick peek at the electric windows mechanism, always been slow but looks juddery on the drivers side when I looked down inside I can see the main gear oscillating when I change from up to down - surely it shouldn't do this should it? Any advice would be welcome.

Sorry Dan, I've never looked down the gap whilst operating mine so I can't tell if it's normal.

Do they slide up and down very slowly and sound like they are straining? It could be worth taking off the door card and cleaning out all the gunk and fluff that accumulates on the sliders then lubing them up with fresh grease. It will make them much quicker and reduce the strain on the mechanism which may be causing the oscillation you are seeing.

I would say it looks ok, but I agree that door card off and some grease would help. Worst case is a new regulator, £45 from a breaker delivered but over £200 new [X(]

Thanks for the replies guys, I did have the door card off while I did this hence being able to get the shot looking down from the top. I did try and clean out the runners but they appears to be made of that kind of felt stuff like the inside of the window scrapers - is that right or are they just really gunked up? I'll probably whip the door card off again and remove the regulator to have a proper look. Cheers again for the advice!

When i cleaned mine I did notice some wobble so i think this may be OK, if the operation is not smooth I would check condition of the upper glazing seal, mine had worn through so it appeared to be in two pieces and the glass was digging into the rubber, also check alignment of glass to channel .....the rail towards the none hinge side of the door has an eglongated hole to allow ajustment of the glass angle against the seal.

Best to get the scissors out and clean and lube everything. The grease all drys out and water drips on when the scraper seals fail, everything gets a bit minging and rusty. The large gear will wobble if the bearings are worn badly.

Not sure if others will agree with what I did, but the passenger side window in my 944 was very slow, up and down.
When I cleaned the car, I hosed round the window and cleaned off as much of the crud as possible,
and gently ran the washing up liquid around the window frame rubbers etc. Left for a few minutes and then operated windows up and down a little at a time.
Did this a couple of times, and gradually the window operation improved. Then cleaned the excess off the window.
The first few times the window opened and closed it had a smear of the wash up liquid on the window, but after a few rain showers [and we've had plenty!] window stays clean and work fine.
