Electric Seats

Evening all

I've already posted this on TIPEC but I'm sure someone here will be able to help!

One of my buttons fell of my drivers electric seat today. I have 2 button 2 way adjustment. Turns out the plastic button had broken and sheared off the prong type thing. Anyway, I have melted that back together with my soldering iron and it seems fine for the time being. That's not my point though!

I took out fuse number 6 before proceeding. Electric seat adjustment, 30A, because I was sure the seats moved with ignition off. Anyway put it all back together, popped in fuse and checked passenger seat cos I was round there. Working fine with ignition off. No movement on drivers seat so though so I thought I must have gubbed the switch completely, never mind, thought I would take the fuse back out until I had a new switch. Started car to move back into driveway and for some reason I tried the switch and hey presto seat moved??? [&:]

So to clarify. Passenger seat moves with ignition off or on and stops functioning when said fuse number 6 is out. Drivers seat only functions with ignition on and still functions with fuse 6 removed.

I can't see a separate fuse for drivers side plus why would one work ignition off and the other only when on? I can only assume someone has been in there before me and has switched the live feed?

Any thoughts on my issue and explanations of normal operation are appreciated!

Edit to add there was no sign of any bodging on the seat wiring to switch or to motors.

Cheers

Stuart

One of the wo.sets of having a 20 year old car! Lots of opportunity for modifications to be made. I have a relay for turbo waterpump -.but I don't have a turbo and haven't pulled it to see what doesn't work.

Stuart, I'm fairly certain both my seats work with or without the ignition. Yours and mine are about the same age. I'll check as I go home this evening

My drivers side works without ignition, but the passenger side has no electrics [:(] Oh the windows work without ignition as well, as long as the doors are open

This is true, although the driver's side door contact is a little flaky on mine and sometimes needs a wiggle. The interior light contact is reliable but the second take-off from the door-open contact switch is a bit hit and miss.

ORIGINAL: scam75 Can someone confirm that both seats should be on the same fuse?
Yeah. Pretty sure this is the case. Before you go suspecting the wiring, it is possible to plug the seats in wrongly; you can put the plug in such that the contacts are one row out, and then the behaviour of the seat is peculiar. Whether this would explain the symptoms you have I'm not sure, but it's worth making sure that the plug is aligned as it should be. Oli.
