Electric Drivers seat mechanism

Hi, does anyone know what could be wrong? I bought my 944 with a known fault in that one of the buttons on the drivers electric seat does not work. No problems there as seller included a new button/switch to fit. I haven't got round to sorting it yet.

Tried to adjust the seat today after someone else had driven it and the button that used to adjust the rear height seems to be tilting the seat towards the drivers door. Almost as if only one side of the mechanism is engaging. Anyone had this and know how to fix? I'm happy to get the seat out but am not sure how the mechanism actually works.

Cheers.

Craig

Known problem with these seats (I've had it in my 968 coupe and cabriolet) is that the wires under the seat are very short and wear through where they connect to the motor under the seat. It then appears that the button is not working, but in fact it's just the wire shorting out on the seat frame.

There are 2 motors under the seat. Push the "other" seat all the way forward, then undo the 4 or 6 cap head bolts that hold the seat to the body, you can then lift and tilt the seat to see underneath and see how it works.

IIRC the buttons are live even when ignition is off, so be aware of the possibility of a 12v jolt or spark!

Craig. Sorry to hear that you are being beset with problems. I had this issue when I first bought the car but thought I had fixed it. It must have become un-fixed! I seem to remember the issue was that the cable that connects the motor on one side to the winding-up-and-down mechanism pops out. If you lift the seat out it should be fairly obvious. The motors and switches for the rear were definitely fine.

To take the seat out you need to undo allen bolts at the front and rear of the seat down on the runners. It is easier to get to the rear ones with the seat in the up-most position.

Of course the boost issue will be taking precedence I suspect :( This is a new one to me. My guess would be a split hose. Try checking them all to find a leak - they often split in hard-to-spot areas unfortunately (based on other turbo'ed cars I've had)

Cheers James,

No worries, just had a bit of a run of bad luck. Still chuffed with the car though. So nice to drive (although I've only done about 300 so far).

Rack is leaking again so will be giving up on that one I think. Just waiting to see what Indy are going to do but they have been great so far. They,re also having a look at the turbo issue. I'm hoping it's just a loose vacuum line somewhere.

Had actually forgotten about the seat [:)] i'll have a look when I get it back.

Thanks All - finally got round to looking at this on the weekend. Fitted a new set of buttons to the seat that James gave me with the car and both front and rear motors work 100%. Only problem that remains is the tilting issue I described in post above.

I think I have figured it out though. All flexible shafts are in place but the square end of the flexible shaft that runs from the seat motor to the offside seat corner post lifting mechanism seems to be a bit rounded off. I suspect it is turning inside the slot it is meant to engage with.

It's referred to as item 18 in this exploded view for the 928 seat here but I can't find reference anywhere to one for the 944.

It's basically the flexible shaft that runs to the rear seat lifter closest to the drivers door. Anyone know where I can get one of these?

Thanks

Craig

Thanks Frenchy. Gave Porsche Tonbridge a call yesterday. Excellent service. Said they could get one in for today. Got a call this morning to say they had a driver out near me so he dropped the new flexible shaft and some seat holding down bolts off before 9 am. Amazed by the level of service.

All in and working. £28 for the flexible shaft and £1 odd each for the holding down bolts. Well chuffed!

Craig
