EHybrid Charging from a 3pin supply

So, after several back to back 3.0D versions which have all performed well over many miles, we are switching to a 2023 EHybrid.
Collection day tomorrow after they've fitted the electric towbar as part of the deal.
We do not have a garage at present - though that may change in the future, and do not have an obvious place to install a charger unit. So overnight charging from a domestic socket will be the only option to start with.
My question is whether there should be an adaptor with the car for this purpose or is it something I have to get separately?
When I had a quick look in the boot at the dealer last week there seemed to be just a cable with the Type2 socket in it.

for my last 2 Cayenne hybrids Porsche provided a "small briefcase" which was the Porsche Mobile Charger

This picture was the one from my first eHybrid (958). The bag I got with my current Hybrid was unopened in a garage cupboard, however I just went and opened it and its the same .. The far left cable is the 13 amp to charger unit cable and the big cable (upper centre right ish) is the charger unit to car cable. The other one is a Commando to unit cable

Hi Peter, the last couple of Cayenne Hybrids I've changed, the dealership have always checked to see if I have returned the charging equipment, which normally comes complete with the case as standard on handover, apparently they fetch a pretty penny on eBay.

They are one of the best "in car" supplied EV charging solutions provided by any OEM

Apparently it is with the car, I checked with the OPC so thanks for the info both. Looking forward to picking it up.

How are you getting on with the eHybrid Peter? I have the same comprehensive kit with our eHybrid but yet to use it as I have a Zappi home charger. I've also been told the eHybrids can't use the super fast chargers at Porsche centres so no point in joining the Charging subscription service?

Love the car, almost everything I would have specced myself with the exception of the seats which are not the 18 ways that we usually have.
Performance is fine, and we had the car detailed and ceramic coated last week so it will sparkle in the sunshine if we ever see any again...

Charging is fine with the supplied unit which I have fixed to a post on the driveway. However I discovered a small wrinkle - the car is in Lesley's name on the V5 so to add it to MyPorsche on my account to connect up with Octopus, Porsche have to get her permission. Sent them the documentation a couple of weeks ago and still not happened.

I've been experimenting a bit more and found the Chester OPC video on charging useful. I have a Zappi home charger installed from my last car and this works fine with the Cayenne eHybrid. I've moved to a cheap overnight tariff so plug the car in with the Zappi app set to allow charging during the peak hours only. It charges the 25 kW battery in about 2-3 hours.

I've also found out the following re: public charging for what its worth ;
  1. Porsche offer a monthly subscription service whereby you can use Porsche lounge/OPC and Ionity chargers at various £/kWH rates. Not sure if they are competitive/worth doing for a Cayenne eHybrid as yet?
  2. Lounges/OPCs have high powered chargers (but aimed at full EVs) that cannot be used for the Cayenne eHybrid but they do also have other charge points that can be used by the Cayenne eHybrid albeit at 'slow' speeds so not sure of the value?
  3. Porsche are developing a charger network at hotels who usually let guests staying charge for free. This seems like a useful option to Cayenne eHybrid owners if you happen to stay at the hotel.

I'm new to having a PHEV car worth charging - my previous RR Evoque was such a small real life range I never really bothered charging except for the odd summer day using my Solar Array I have at home.

Hope the above is of some use to some.

I've got a new Panamera 4 E-hybrid Mk3 coming early May and I want to install a home charger before it arrives. I was intending to install a Zappi 2, but am concerned that it may be a mistake after reading the publicity re Jaguar disabling third party apps. Is there any benefit in fitting Porsche's own home charger?

I'm not completely up to speed with the JLR-Octopus setup but on first glance it looks to be an 'intelligent charging' beta setup between Octopus, Zappi and the car. I don't use this feature with my Zappi-Eon installation. I programme the Zappi to charge during the cheap rate, night time window. When I plug the cable in the Porsche app reports 'charging error' but later when Zappi starts the charge it works just fine.

The Porsche comes with the full home charger kit 'FOC' so you may want to start by using that and see how you get on? You can then add a Zappi later when these new developments have had time to work themselves through?

On a related charging note I've just returned from 2500 mile trip in France. Public charging worked well and was pretty reasonable £10 to fully charge the 25 kW battery. However hotel charging was not so good value as they tended to be setup for EV charging with a fixed fee which didn't offer as good value for the smaller battery Hybrid.

IMO on long distance journeys the car performs better overall in Hybrid mode than in petrol only (sport/sport+) modes....unless you just want to have a hoon for the sake of it :)

Thanks for your reply. You have made me feel less stressed about having to organise a charger before I get the car. Sounds like I will be better to wait till it arrives. This is my first venture into the EV world and I am keen not to make an expensive mistake.
Has anyone purchased the Porsche home wall charger setup for their E-Hybrid and if so what has been your experience?

The charger that comes with the car works just fine on domestic 3 pin supply. Not immediately obvious, but you can set two different charge rates. This is so you can use a lightweight extension reel and at 50% charge you are charging at about (from memory!) 1200watts which should not stress a cheap extension reel too much as this is in the region of 5-7amps current. At 100% charge rate you are pulling 2.1kw from mains supply. Takes around 12 hrs to charge from fully flat at this rate. I know that a domestic socket is supposed to be able to handle a 3kw electric fire but this is only for fairly short periods as any long term draw at his sort of wattage stands a very good chance of overheating the socket. This is the reason why the Porsche charger only pulls 2.1kw. Tells you this on the app by the way. Phone me if you are having difficulty 07716 408 543.
