Early front calipers-disassembly help please!

I'm overhauling a pair of front calipers for my early 944 (So same calipers as 924S and 924 Turbo).
The sliders were well seized, but I have separated them. Trouble is, even with the pistons fully retracted, I can't separate the two halves to clean properly because I can't remove the wire springs!
Question-is there a trick to removing these wires? I have tried leverage which didn't work, and I don't have a punch anywhere near thin enough to knock them through from the back.
Advice greatly appreciated please!
 
From my experience, and others might disagree, but I would recommend not splitting the two halves. If you think they are difficult to get apart, wait until you try to get that monster wire spring back into place and the two parts back together. I took one apart but never again. With the other one I just worked the two halves back and forward while putting in copper heat-proof grease in the right places, then it worked fine and has done ever since.
 
If, for your own satisfaction you want to take the sping out to replace the nylon slides a good set of pin punches will only set you back about £35, don't pay much less or they will probably be like cheese. Of course when you have the punch set you will have a handy punch the right size for driving out the pad retaining pins.
 
On reflection, if you take the calliper off completely, and with a good set of punches, it should not be that difficult. My comments above about the difficulty of re-assembly relate to cleaning up the calliper in situ with the hydraulic hose still connected. On a workbench it would presumably be much less of a hassle.
