Howdy all,

Ive got some dynamat and was considering using it on the porsche. Would you recommend doing it? if so, which areas would you place it?

Cheers

Depends upon what you want your car to be.

Dynamat is used in cars where there is a large car stereo install. But such installs (including the dynamat) are very, very heavy, and will ruin a sports car.

The 944 suffers from excess weight at the best of times, and I'd be thinking about removing weight rather than adding it. But, as they say, each to their own.

Oli.

I have a small square around each speaker in the front of my '44, just to stop the magnets resting right up against the internal structure of the door. Seems to work"”there was a little vibration/distortion without it. It was only needed because the speakers I fitted had quite a deep mechanism.

The boot floor is probably a good place to start as that's where a lot of noise enters the cabin, there's already a pad there but adding more cannot hurt (except for adding weight as Oli points out). I once carried some sound absorbing panels in the boot of the car and it was quite eery but did make me realise how much of an issue this was. If you want to go mad then there's quite a lot of exposed metal work towards the rear of the car, there are areas inside the rear arches which are only lightly damped as standard.

Most of the other areas on the car that are good sources of noise (tops of the rear arches for example) already have a felt mat in place which will be a pain to remove.

its mainly to have a quiet car. Ive got a track car that ive taken all the sound deadening out and i know whats its like to hear every stone hitting the arches and underbody. I dont want to go mad but i would like to cover the MAIN areas that let alot of noise come through.
