Dump Valve

Not my cup of tea as well but differences in opinion is what makes the world go round!! I've heard nothing but bad things about Bailey dump valves of both vent to atmosphere and recurculating types. In fact if you use the search function I think you'll probably find a few threads on this forum about them.
 
Ive always liked the sound of dump valves although they seems to be assosiated with chav cars !!! I fancy the bailey vta one as its a piston type not the diaphram. Im going to borrow one of my friend and see what happens !!1

Nice bit of kit (and drawing !!) what does one of those cost and does it fit in where the standard valve goes as the bailey one ive seen fits onto the pipe at one end and needs a blank for the rubber on the end of the maf ??

I bought mine direct from Forge. It was about the same price as a Bailey.

You will need a blanking plug, as you are dumping to atmosphere.

I believe the ESS is a DV34 single piston, it doesn't say anything about a dual piston.

Bailey produce several Subaru specific dump valves including the DV10 and DV12.

I'm not sure I would buy second hand from an unknown source as seals may be worn and springs fatigued.

I had queries with my Forge initially and Forge provided me with different rate springs to try FOC.
 
Id prefer to get a new one but im already in bother for spending too much money on my car as it is !!! Do you have your old bailey valve still ???
 
My Bailey required constant stripdown and clean / lubricate until it was 'dumped' in favour of a Tial 50mm.

I always thought the bailey dump valves were quite good,i'm going to try and find something cheap to try first just in case i decide not to use one and to keep the peace at home as all i get is "your not spending more money on that bloody car are you ". So if anyones got a dump valve for sale let me know !!!
 
I don't like them either, though I did have one (the same as Rick's). It's back to the noises that the car makes being the noises it makes for me - Rick, John and I have MAP so we can use them and they should be a performance increase hence I lived with the noise. If you don't run MAP then you are trying to make it work for the sake of it which is a very different fishy kettle in my mind.
 
With flapper type airflowmeter i would not do that. It can be see easily on dyno, when you change gears your A/F mixture goes nuts. It's OK if you have changed to MAF or MAP
 
Both my cars have Bailey DV's which do not vent to atmosphere an make the sound you mention when changing gear, a little bit 90's now !
 
'Dump valves' dont suit any car, really. The proper term is air bypass valve and in keeping with most turbocharged cars built since 1980, the 944 Turbo already has a recirculating air bypass valve.

You can end up with a situation where the standard part isnt up to the job, but vent to atmosphere valves are all about showing off and very, very seldom required. Unless youre fitting a VTA valve with a duckcall, in which case it will be perfectly acceptable and quite funny. On ScoobyNet I always used to advise eager new members asking about 'dump valves' to leave the car as it was and simply rev it at traffic lights whilst shouting "Im a c*ck!" out of the open window. Same effect and your car will still run properly, which it wont with a VTA.
 
I have to concede that my car has a K&N airfilter and a Bailey recirc, but it was like that when I bought it. Its silent, I struggle to get up enthusiasm for messing about with cars now and I dont have the original parts to replace them with, so Im stuck.
