drain holes

Does anyone know exactly where the drain holes in the sills are situated? How many inches from the front/back of the sill? I looked today but I cant seem to find any. Are they situated behind the plastic trims? I jacked up the front of the car and got underneath but could find no trace of them. There was not a lot of room under the car so my face was a bit close but I did have a good look. I also had a look through the plastic vent holes to look for the rear drain hole but no joy. My car is a 1990 S2 wih original never repaired sills.

There are a number, all along the length.

Viewed from underneath the sills are two pressings with a seam at the bottom. The seam has a number of 'gaps' which are the drain holes. You'll see them if you look again, and probably wonder why you didn't see them first time 'round. If in doubt then run your fingers along the seam and feel for the 'thicker' bits.

Someone on here has a good picture, which they may yet post ...

Thanks for the advice. I have just been to my car and felt underneath,it seems that the pressing to which you refer is situated just under the plastic trim so may need removing to enable me to get at the holes .I did run my finger down the side of the pressing but could not feel any enlargement indicating the presence of the holes, probably due to the presence of mud and underseal -will try again tomorrow.

yes, you'l need to remove the plastic trim to see them properly. IIRC there is 10 per side in total, 6 outer smaller holes and 4 inner larger ones.

Just a thought... if I were to wax treat the sill cavities, would this block up the drain holes?

Taking the plastic trims off the sides helps to see the drain holes but it's not essential. If you do take the trims off then take care ... it is held on with plastic nuts on threaded plastic studs that stick out of the sills, which can be quite rusted ...

Yes, if you spray wax in the sills then it can block the drain holes. Which is why it's important to make sure they are clear once the spraying is done. Poking them with a cocktail stick is a good way of doing this.
