door wiring diagram

As some of you may know, I have to replace both my door wiring harnesses. I managed to get some for a 1991 S2 coupe from eBay but have found that these have some pins missing where they connect to the bulkhead, presumably this means that if I use these I will be losing some functionality in my doors but I don't know what!!

Anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram so i can work out if I am going to cause some big problem by using these

I have spoken to Hatfield OPC and they have been really helpful, apparently my 1991 car is actually a 1990 build and the S2 Cab had an entirely different wiring harness to everything else for about 10 months or so (?) these are still available @ £500 for the pair. Is it normal for manufacturers to carry stuff this old or are Porsche just a special case? I can't help but think they like the idea of keeping all our old girls running.

Wiring (current flow) diagrams are in the 944 workshop manuals. You can download them lots of places. Try www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm - you can get a full set there.

It was/is my understanding that German law dictates manufacturers must make all parts available for 10 years following the ceasing of production. That and they use a lot of VW part bin stuff (not sure a wiring harness is a part in though) . I also think Porsche do like their history and are keen for the classic status their old models achieve - just my thoughts though.

My guess you would loose the 1" drop function on the windows - thats the only difference I can think of between the coupe and cab

Of course!! thanks for that, it makes perfect sense now. However I don't know if I need that drop to help with putting the roof down. Of course I can always just press the window buttons and save myself the £500!

Check out your roof relay. It works together with the windows. When you operate the roof, windows gets signal to go down. Cab's relay is more modern technique (e-proms) compared to old fashion sun roof relay(old style points) coupes have. Coupe's relay works to get roof down, but it won't raise roof back or operate door glass' . Have tested it with the S2 cab to 951 cab project i am currently working with. Roof relay is broken, so i have to source a working one. Roof relay is quite expensive part.
Wiring harness' are one of the most expensive parts of these cars. For example 968 inside dash harness is about 3K€

Well in my book that sounds like an essential then! much as I enjoy the roof down I will need it to go back up occasionally!

Thanks for this Olli, forgive my ignorance but how should I check the relay? is this simply by comparison of part numbers?

Joss - You are just bothered about the "in door" loom if Ive got it right? Olli is talking about the roof relay that drops the windows a little, so if you (Joss) can live with the windows not dropping (ie the roof being a little more awkward to locate) the question it is - will the roof relay recognise the fact that the windows haven't dropped and not work the roof?
It could be that the extra contacts "tell" the roof relay that the windows are still up or similar?

Lay out both and see what the difference is. Inserting pins to connector blocks or replacing connector blocks and adding wires isnt hard or expensive just fiddly.
