door speaker covers - how to attach?

I bought new speaker covers - but can't attach them to the door card..? A previous owner had screwed the plastic frames into the door and then glued the grilles onto the plastic frames - which won't do of course. I seem to be missing whatever these covers are meant to clip onto?

If you have the correct grilles then the screw goes through the hole in the grille - through the tab on the edge of the speaker and into a locating hole x4

The grilles are OEM but there are no holes..? And even if I drilled holes into the plastic, I wouldn't be able to secure the mesh back on? - it looks to me like these should clip onto another piece that's screwed onto the door..?

Glad someone else has this problem. The grill snaps on to the original speaker mount. I have one that stays on, but the other snaps off and is currently held on with double sided number plate tape!! The speakers are past their best, so I have been looking for new speakers with grilles...on the 944 they close against the end of the dash so grilles must be slim enough not to get crushed when the door shuts.

I probably just need a new grille, but Porsche price is £89...

Yes I'm afraid that's what I paid.. twice! I can't see what aspect of the speaker/mount it could possibly snap on to..? Is the original mount that you refer to visible in the picture of my speaker? Thanks!

When it stops raining (tomorrow?) I'll pull the cover off and have a look at mine. What make speakers are they? You can see a witness on the door card where the original mount was...same shape as the grille of course.

Thanks so much I 'd appreciate that. Very curious.

Not sure what speakers they are - they don't look factory but I like my audio punchy so I'm expect they'll get replaced in due course. I've only owned the car a couple of weeks and I have already spent the best part of a grand on the interior dealing with my OCD around aesthetics. Parts prices are mad, my 964 needed nothing after purchase and it has largely only needed servicing since so I'm just getting to know Porsche parts prices for some most unassuming items (floormats, switchgear)..!

To me, your speakers don't look anything like the originals that I had, so I very much doubt that original grills will clip on to them.

Right - worked it out, you’re missing part number 944.555.159.00 they’re about £20 direct from Porsche and look like this (you’ll need 2 obviousl):

You screw the speaker into this frame and then the grille clips onto the frame. It’s a different mount to mine where the screws hold both grille and speaker together.

I have to tackle this issue at some point, not really a current priority with having a working engine taking precedence! Somebody has taken the liberty of hatcheting my original door cards to install 6 inch round speakers. I have (I think) got most of what I need for the refit including new alpine speakers and the rubber waterproof rear covers for them.

I also have buried away somewhere what look like 2 brand new (or almost brand new) burgundy door cards which interestingly have a small factory hole for manual winding windows. They are clearly for a series 2 as are identical in every other way, Would these have come off a turbo cup maybe or was manual windows ever and option around the world for the series 2? They came from Germany.

Cheers

Stuart

In addition to ElDavo's comment - I bought some Alpine 4x6 speakers off the ol' fleabay which required a modicum of filing to the plastic surround to get them to fit. The speaker covers snap onto the backing plate easily enough. Although seeing as the previous speakers had managed 30 years a blob of superglue won't hurt.

Indeed - I got the Alpine's too and found the same thing with the surrounds - bit of sanding down of the surrounds and they fit like a glove
