Door mirror glass

Hi Guys, can any tell me please if the door mirror glasses are interchangeable with late & early cars ? I know the method for removing early glasses from the housings are different from the later cars, but are both the same size glass & do both have the connector pins on the back of the glass in the same place ? as well as the fixing pins ?, cheers, Jinxy

I suspect they're different given that they have different part numbers.

Early cars have a 911 derived mirror "911 731 035 08" whilst the later cars have a 944 part number "944 731 035 02"

Thanks Glenn.... Dammit !! I wasn't sure if that was the case or not, ive seen the mirrors on Ebay & they all list a range from 1981 - 1990 as being the same part, probably one of those generic listings even though the list originates from Ebay ??, ok plan B then, thanks again, Jinxy

Sometimes the ebay ones dont have the heating element either, so worth checking that when you find one (assume yours has)

Why atart with ebay? Try the proper suppliers first; at least then you'll know the right part to look for, and have a price to compare. Sometimes ebay is hilariously expensive compared with a call to a Porsche Centre, or someone like Bert Gear or Type 911.

Early cars, up to 1985 have 3 prong fixing;

Late ones, 86 on have the circular fixing;

Both only available Genuine Porsche at about £60+

The ebay ones will just be the glass and you must have to stick it over the old glass

Cheers guys, sorry for the late reply, P.C problems means I didn't get notified on new posts. Yep I managed to borrow a complete mirror & prised the glass off of it, then after some faffing about wit the plastic ring I figured out how to remove the glass from my own car, this is when I confirmed that they are indeed different, but having both pieces of glass allowed me to at least confirm that the heating element on my late mirror is faulty by plugging in the early glass & turning the de-mister on, the early one heated up straight away, so purchased one from the awesome Porsch-a-part for £25 tested & delivered, just waiting for it to arrive now, fitting should be a doddle now ive worked out how to remove the mirror LOL !!, Jinxy
