Door handle issue

Guys

The drivers side door handle has stopped unlatching the door lock, opens fine from inside, feels like something has progressively bent any cluse as to what will need replaced?

PS Anyone got experiance of Motortune in Shotts lanarkshire ?
 
Possibly, its a common failing, but a part snaps and the trigger becomes easier to move without any resistance or tactile feel.

The only solution used to be a new or replacement used handle, but more recently people have started to offer a repair part/kit.
 
Handle pulls or pushes a rod with a ball ans socket joint. Check it's not just popped out. Motortune always gets a good name. what do you need done?
 
My passenger door decided at one point that when it was locked it wouldn't lock or unlock from inside or out. What I had to do was attempt to pull the outside catch out (as that got stuck in the handle itself) of the handle with a bit of a struggle. Then spray a bit of wd40 into the handle and worked it a bit and works perfectly. Don't know if it will work for you or even if the catch is stuck in the handle but might be worth a try.
 
Sounds like the internal mechanism that transfers the movement of the trigger to the door latch, it is a common fault i did one of mine last year, bit was circa £9 from main dealer, first job is to get the door card off and have a butchers.

A few things starting to pile up at present, but a good service oil, plugs, dizy cap, gearbox oil and a few other bits and bobs, use to do all my own work as had decent garage and equipment but its kerbside motors these days and one its too cold and two I am getting too old lol. looking at the cars history i think they have worked on it a few times in the past. Have yet to find a local company I trust, last one i tried wouldnt even look at it.

Will take door card off when i get a chance, gave me an excuse to drive my white one tonight, only got couple weeks left before its MOT is up and I reckon its the end of the road as sills need done. Sad but nothing lives for ever
 
It might well be just gunk within the handle - have had this happen a couple of times and a quick squirt of WD40 has done the trick on both occasions [:)]
 
I have a theory that the little ball and socket is a deliberate weak point, so that it breaks rather than have the ball break off the other end of the cast zinc or mazak trigger arm as happened on my 1982 Audi 80, with siimlar door handles. Breakers yards not content to sell a single handle for much less than the new price back then (1986) I made a new trigger from steel and fitted it to the handle.

That a very useful guide if its the same, cant see a great reason they would significantly re-engineer for the 968

 
A thread from the dead I know, but I also had one of my doors not unlocking and locking via the keyfob, but it would via the key in the door. Soon enough, both doors became the same. It was down to the operating rod going from the solenoid to the door lock.

On one side I popped it back in for now, although it is slightly loose, with the other side having completely broken up. New operating rods later and I have a set of working doors :).
 
Had this on my car about 18 moths ago, was advised at the MOT test that this was an MOT failure.
Sure enough it was the cast alloy link that transmits movement from the door handle push button to the door release linkage snapped.
Firstly if this is the cause of your failure DO NOT remove the door card as you will still not be able to access the door release mechanism - I did this & only made more work for myself
& ended up with scratched arms & knuckles.
After trying on & off for two days to get to grips with this I finally admitted defeat & called my local independent Porsche specialist, (Northway, always very helpful).
They advised that it was a tricky little job which could take 20 min 0r 2 to 3 hours depending how it went.
Work could all be done by just removing the door handle & working with long series snipe nosed pliers - combination of straight & curved.
Actually took about 40 mins but I think I just got lucky !!

Top Tip - Tie a piece of cord or fishing line around the new part, makes it far easier to retrieve it if you drop it into the door innards
