Door handle (exterior) trigger sticking in?

The door (fortunately on the passenger side) can still be opened and closed by inside and outside handles, but when opened from the outside, the trigger part of the handle (looks like an early golf part?) sticks in when you pull it. It can be pulled back out with your fingers but that's not ideal.
Easy fix? Or fecked?


 
Is quite possibly just dirt - Passenger side is particularly susceptable to this. Try a good squirt of WD40 and give it a wiggle. Might be all it needs.
 
They always stick after a while. Vw handles are the same. Spay into the back of the handle with wd40 and it will dislodge the dirt. Then wiggle the hadle in and out a few times until it is free moving. Then wait a couple of days and spray into the join between the trigger and the handle with a tin of spray grease. The wd 40 tends to dry out and the proble3m will return but if you spray grease it it will work for a long time without problem. You sould really grease the handles and door hinges etc when you service the car once or twice a year.
 
Easy! Yep that sorted it nicely, many thanks.

I have always greased the hinges, latches and checkstraps, every few months as the car rarely gets used. But never done the handles. Always thought you'd get mucky fingers when you use them.
 
When I fitted scripted handles I emery clothed and lubed all of the mechanisms and they work like new[:)]
