Does anyone recognise this 944? Stockport area.

I've enquired aboit this 2.7 944 and it sounds quite good so far, but obviously you can never be sure until you see it for yourself.

Anyone know it?

Previously I've travelled all over the UK for cars (usually forum cars) but when shopping for an S2000 recently I had my time wasted a number of times due to misdescribed cars, and this ones 4 hours away.

This one, which reads very similar, is much closer, but has more previous owners, short MOT and no tax.

I'm sure this was a car that was for sale at a Cheshire dealers that had been sat for ages on his forecourt !
He wanted 4k for it a few years ago which was way overpriced. It looked better in the pics he had. The reg was deff ending in ENV and red.
It had the different steering wheel and boasted that the owner had something to do with getting retrimmed logo seats from Germany or something. The dealer wouldn't budge on price and the service history he had was way overdue a cambelt.
I think I saw the same car on ebay a few weeks ago....

Wonder if it is the same car then. I will.ask the seller where he bought it from.

He told me that the belts were replaced 8000 miles ago, last year. He mentions the recent retrim but doesn't say whether it was in his ownership.

 
Soundd like it could be the same one.

Seller has told me this morning that he has owned it for past 9 years, but did mention sourcing the fabric from Germany for the retrim.

Could be conincidence, or maybe he was asking a dealer to sell for him.

Sounds like an honest car, so will possibly make the journey at the weekend, he does sound like he's getting annoyed with all my questions though, lol!!
 
that looks like a nice car and the price seems good.

I hate when people get annoyed with questions why shouldn't you ask?!
 
I know, I must admit, times gone by if I speak to a seller about a car and he doesn't have much to say about, or doesn't know much about it - then I don't even bother looking.

I'm a car enthusiast and like to buy from an enthusiast, as I said, years gone by I have mainly bought performance cars from enthusiasts, and never had a problem (up until we went looking for the S2000!!). When I'm selling I like to list every little detail, so the prospective buyers don't feel let down.

I'm hopefully going to look at the one in Diss tomorrow, it's not far from me, and even though it's more expensive with less MOT, more owners, etc - it still sounds like a nice one.

Id be wary of anyone referring to the 'rare 2.7'. As soon as people stray from the straight and narrow you dont know how many other lies and made up facts they have included...

When did we last hear about the incredubly rare 1988 2.5l 944? They made far, far fewer of these than they did the 2.7l cars after all.

Could you point him towards this thread? When I enquired over the weekend it (the stockport one) was sold, but then monday he contacted me to tell me it was for sale again as the 'young' lad couldn't get insurance.

Would be interested to hear more if it's the same one.

As for the 'rare' 2.7 comments - I know what you're saying, but plenty of people use that line, even though as you suggest the '88 2.5 was rarer! But as a model across all model years, it is rarer!!

That seller sounds genuine enough, I've arranged to take a look tomorrow so will get a better idea!!
 
It's the same car and as he bought mine, I don't think insurance was the problem.

I was looking at an s2000 3 years ago between 944s and we bought my wife a new mx5 (dont laugh used it for down in France and was an great car) instead randomly found the s2000 more claustrophobic than the mx5, looks great from the back was behind a red one tonight.
 
It seems fairly priced, and if I am not mistaken it comes with a ClubSport steering wheel which is not one of the cheaper wheels out there either (in case you decide to go back to an original item...).
 
it was an honest car as far as I could tell, but the dealer had it advertised for months and wanted far too much money for it with no cambelt history for years.

I'm not laughing, I recently sold my mk1 Eunos, which I ran as a second car for three years or so - was a great car, great feedback, if a little slow in a straight line (unless FI'd!).

When my other half decided she wanted a roadster I thought it would be a little greedy to keep mine as well!! Initially tried to convince her of a Boxster, but she didn't like them for some reason. Almost went with a mk3 MX5, was a nice car in many ways, fun, handled nicely - not as sharp as my mk1, but they can be improved upon easilly. Just a shame about the Ford powerplant. In the end she opted for the S2k, she'd always fancied one, and it seemed more of a special car than the MX5.

Even though it's bigger, it's just as snug as my mk1 was, but I like that. It's basic, and lacking in luggage space, but it's very driver orientated, and the engine & gearbox are lovely. I've not driven it loads up until this week, and I'm still getting a feel for the handling. Nowhere near as much feedback as my Eunos, but does turn in nicely and feels like it has plenty of grip (in the dry, lol!!).

Anyway - I digress!! Have spoken to a potential buyer of the Stockport 944 and am going to give it a miss for now. Went to have a look at the other one as per my other thread, but again, still looking :)
 
Hallsy, Mk1 and Mk2 MX5's are terrific track cars! A mate of mine went round the "Ring" in eight minutes in his Mk1 and again in his wife's Mk2. They both only had sorted brakes and suspension, plus exhaust and induction.....![8D][:D]
