Do you ever hate your car?

I don't hate it, but it drives me crackers sometimes!! I went to replace the radiator switch this afternoon as the fan has been coming on randomly after shuting off the engine and it wouldn't turn off.

Very long story short, but after 4-5 hours of no access to get to it, trying to remove many things to get at it, then decided to just be done with it and remove the raditor, when trying to remove the switch my radiator cracked, just below where the top hose connects []

I wasn't too upset until I just checked the price of radiators for 944's!!!!!! OMFG!!

Bad luck mate and I know what you mean!
I went to replace the lower headlight adjuster screw on the offside, just like I did to the nearside on Saturday - 1/2 hour or so - but the plastic adjuster fell apart so I made a piece up - 2 1/2 hours.
Get 2 from Elliott, put one in and recor the other.

Did have a bit of a Basil Fawlty moment when my car locked me in whilst in France!
I very carefully beat the living hell out of the door card/lock area until it let me out.

Have seen a VERY large guy get out of an old (external hinges) mini and literally rip the door off.when it stalled and wouldn't restart at traffic lights.
About 1979 in Norwich, not sure how rust weakened it was but I decided not to get too close!

Little things drive me nuts :
The import duty on the timing belt kit I got from the USA made me want to vomit - Still cross over that - Not the cars fault in fairness

The time I was heading to Galway and the drivers door mirror seemed to be a bit floppy.. Had to strip the door (No Need to) to get the mirror off. Cut the wires and had to tighten up the internal spring on the mirror - Refit mirror - resolder cables and rebuild door. A right bit of swearing.. I forgot about it once I had 10 miles done

The time I inadertantly broke one of the levers on the Drivers side "Porsche Scripted" door handle. This was after the keys got lost in a garage fire we had. £85 + p&p - Ill be more careful in the future

Yes these little things do drive you cracked but the positives far outweigh the negatives !

I was talking with a Ferrari Testarossa owner at a show in Galway. She was 1991 - Chat about troubles .. and the money to fix it. He was not a mechanic but had to learn very quickly. Engine and gearbox had to come out to change a temperature sensor !... He pointed out about 12 different thins that were on his list to do
Damn Fiats[:(]

After hearing them stories us 944 owners have nothing really to complain about !

The old girl infuriates me on regular occasions. Pretty much all is forgiven when I'm driving her though.

They can really Pee me off at times but part of the experience with old Porkers, Turbo S is absolutely tickety boo at the moment (should not have typed that) the 220 has a little list of sort it jobs, the main one being an exhaust rattle at 2000 rpm, i know what is causing it i just need to sort it............GRRRR []

Just sent you a PM Andy.

My 944 drives me up the wall. Every time I fix one thing something else breaks.

I finally got the engine back in and got it running again only to discover the oil pressure sender and the alternator have died. Probably wouldn't be so bad but there's not much left on the car that I haven't already replaced. Soon the new stuff will start breaking and I'll be starting again.

Sorry to hear about your problems Andy. I remember having the 'hateful' feeling towards my Fiesta quite frequently. It's never (literally never!) let me down, but I still hated it!

Remember for next time that an extra pair of hands is only a bag of chips or a liquid lunch away [;)]

My 205 gti has caused more calls to the AA than I can remember and I always say one more breakdown and it's going on pistonheads, can't seem to follow through with the threat. It's had everything replaced at least once now.

..or lasagne [;)] Cheers for the offer

Smiffy - the fan seemed to work fine when driving, I certainly had no temperature issues. It would be 30 mins to 1 hour after switching off the fan would come on and stay on, was running all night I think one time.

Frustratingly on the day I went to change the switch and bust my rad, it behaved itself all day!

Looks like you've got a new toy looking at your avatar?? [8D]

Got the new rad fitted yesterday, no leaks, temperature runs a little lower now and the fan is behaving how it should so put some more miles on her today [8D]

Thanks again for sorting the rad so quickly Jonny [;)]

Had a white 1.9 GTI, the only car her indoors has said she missed, there is a 1.6 advertised where i work right now, if it was a 1.9 i may have been tempted, still need to get my 220 on the ramp and sort the niggly exhaust rattle and take a look at the reversing light switch as i suspect thet is what is blowing fuses renedering the leccy mirrors and reverse lights off course Kaput !!
There always seems to be a job to do on them, thought the Turbo S was fine just noticed the clock lamp has gone............GRRR [;)]

Another one for the hate list!! Fitted this today, really like it, thought the yellow goes well with the dash numbers

..but it wasn't quite straight when driving dead ahead. Got back tonight and thought a quick fix, was it hell! Two of the six bolts just wont come out, I hadn't done them up too tight either but I've tried everything. But the hex holes rounded out like they were butter.

Have left the car alone now as the air got very blue. I'm not having a good car week, with my daughters car a nightmare to fix the brakes on, 944 rolling down the drive and hitting the garage and now this - I could take a hammer to it all right now!! []

RRrrrrrgh - rant over [:D]
