Do Dim-dip Cars Require Separate Sidelamps?

Ive covered this one in the title!

I realise that its a little soon to be feeling Spring-like, but Im sat in waiting for Citilink to bring my new tyres and Im thinking about upcoming work...

I intend to remove my combined fog and driving lamps and fit cooling ducts. Ed H. has done this on his car, which is unfettered by Din-dip rules and as a result he has had to fit small sidelamp bulbs into the clear front indicators.

Because my car has dim-dip sidelights, I believe that I can remove the separate sidelamps and still be legal, but Id be grateful if anyone is able to confirm this.

Thanks

Simon

I contemplated turning mine into dim dip to get around the sidelights issue, I interpreted the document above as the sidelights must operate when the ignition is off. Do the pods lift with the ignition off with dim dip?

Extra lamps work well in the indicators as the reflector is split in the middle.

Simon I have 2 questions

1. You're hinting at doing all sorts to your car - it needs a proper project thread. Where is it?

2. Why aren't you booked for Bedford?

[:D]

If people honestly wanted to see it then I will make a photographic record but it wouldnt be the first thing that Id think of. With regards to Bedford: Im interested but my car isnt in a fit condition at present. I did try to buy new dampers on ney years eve, but the price had jumped by £150, so Im currently deciding what to do.

The 4l plumbed-in extinguisher, Sparco seats and SD cage are already here and ready to go, but the suspension is actually the most pressing issue.(

Simon have you seen the dim/dip thread under 944 Technical Articles? I found this very helpful but not sure if it what you are after doing?
It certainly stops the lights flipping up when you just want side lights on.

Do your dim-dip headlights work with the ignition off? Sidelights are a separate item and have to work in the ignition off position.

Here is a list of things covered on the test (May not be quite up-to-date with current requirements).

Cheers,

Thanks Martin, but the dim-dip problem is hopefully going to be an advantage in this instance. [:D]

Fred, they do work with the ignition off yes, which is hopefully why I should be able to remove the PU lamps without having to mess around.

Dim Dip is ignition on only, part of the design actually. And yes you require seperate side lights that will work with the ign key out. Mine failed its MOT on this!

Really? Its years since I last had a dim-dip car before my Turbo, but when I last checked this one, the headlamps remained up with the dim-dips illuminated when the key was removed...

Mine remained up but the lights went out! They are actually the dip beam on low volts hence why it is ignition on only.
