DME Reset

Hi,

Can someone tell me the correct way to reset the DME system.

I've read in various places that you dis-connect the battery for 20min and then take for a spirited drive or leave the car ticking over for 15 minutes if the battery have been dis-connected.

Which is the best way?

How spirited does this drive have to be?

Thanks

Rob

Rob,

The aim of the DME reset is to erase the stored variables in the non-volatile memory in the DME Control Unit. Dependant on the circuitry used, it can potentially take a little while (maybe a few hours) for the voltage to decline sufficiently for the memory to be erased. A more reliable way to reset the DME is with a Bosch "Hammer" but that's obviously not that convenient if you don't have one.

The 15 minute drive after the reset allows the DME to remap the variables based on the style of driving so I would guess that you need to drive the way you would normally drive. I've heard suggestions that you should let the engine tickover for 2 minutes before the drive. Some say you should "drive like you stole it" but there would seem little point if that is not your usual style.

Hope that helps.

Dave

Nice one, Thanks Dave.

Think it's about time to invest in some reading material, I'm starting to get on my own tits posting my problems.

Rob
