The 220 is not a happy car, it is running very rich fuel wise and drinking the stuff it is also hesitant at low revs (choking up) i have not done anything to the car it started last weekend when going to a show, embarassed me by cutting out at the exit gate and had to be pushed back onto the field where it fired back up after a couple of minutes, tailpipe is sooty black and it can be hesitant at light throttle, happy when revved.
[:(]

FPR, AFM, Anyone else had these symptons ?

I'd say the engine temperature sensor has failed. The ecu now thinks the car is cold all the time and overfuels accordingly

Jim - if you're coming to Beamish on Sunday I think I have a spare engine temp sensor you can have.

Replaced mine due to an idling issue but it turned out the jubilee clip on the Afm was loose letting in unmetered air.

DME temp sensor would be my first guess too. I did try to reply to your message Jim, but you were full up for a couple of days afterwards. Thanks.

Cheers peeps for the suggestions, Dave not sure about Beamish, i will see what the "tribe" here at home want to do, cn pay postage if i do not make it or if some of the other Cumbrians come over they can collect ?

Yes the temp sensor is now also on the suspect list, thanks for that suggestion !

UKMastiff did your car just start this suddenly or was it gradual ? my car was parked up fine and then i did notice on the next journey that it was being thirsty it then cut out on tick over (overfuel) then started a few minutes later.

Cheers Mike,
Mine has a 3 bar FPR but i have a standard one somewhere so will get that changed over this week and try it out.

My S2 had same issues only happen every now and again , only when hot.Replaced AFM, ecu temp sensor still didn't fix , finally found a small split in a vacuum hose from AFM/throttle body , REPLACED AND ALL OK !.So I deduce it was only opening up when hot and more flexible.

Sourced my standard FPR and will get it fitted tomorrow night, thanks for the suggestion eddie i will also get a look at that.
