Dial Faces

Has anybody changed theirs? I quite fancy white dials in my black 968 Sport. How easy is it to change or is this a professional job? Is it time consuming/expensive and is it all worth the effort in the end?

I know a few 944 guys who have done this and they all reported it was easy [8D]

You have to remove the steering wheel, then the gauge pod just pulls forward once you have removed a few easily visible screws. From there you can get the plastic cover off and replace the dials.

Apparenty a good kit will inculde a tiny tool so you can remove and replace your needles without damaging them. Prestige Parts sell a kit, and most of the other accessory dealers do as well.

Steve,

I've pasted a copy of a recent email and pictures from the 944 list about a German company that does white or aluminium dial faces as well as chrome rings to go round each individual gauge. This post came from Martyn Cockram the 944 Register Secretary who currently lives in Germany nearby to this manufacturer:

Further to some recent mail on the subject, I went and had a look at the aluminium dial facings and chrome bezels as advertised at http://www.tachodesign.de The guy showed me the 944 instrument cluster that features on the web site in the flesh so to speak that do look the canines gonads.

So much so that I have already ordered my set. Only problem being that I couldn't take them then and there as he only (naturally) has all KPH ones in stock. He is making me a MPH/KPH set up and it will take about a week. The other thing he mentioned is that on the rev counter, he can inscribe Porsche or 944 or both. To have this done will cost that little bit extra but should look good.

Prices (incl VAT) are:

Set of chrome bezel surrounds: euro 59
White gauges with black numbers: euro 139
Aluminium gauges with black numbers: euro 159

Extra engraving (Porsche etc): euro 29

PLEASE NOTE: They are only available for 'oval dash' models i.e. Turbo, S2 or 968's

I believe they speak good English

Wow ... I'm not personally wild about the aluminium look, but the chance to have the "968" script, or perhaps "Club Sport" on the dials would be seriously cool, just like Porsche do with the GT3 dials. Not a bad price either.

Hi Paul
Thanks for that. You're right they look really Pucker!!!! Which now creates another problem. Aluminium or white, white or aluminium, do I toss a coin, flip a card, both hands behind the back with ali and white in the palms of each hand. Better still get the wife to choose, then I can't go wrong. Even better still Christmas is here and I'm short of a few pressies. I'll get on the Web now.
