What’s the latest thinking on the best all round economy diagnostic tool for the DIY mechanic? One of the iCarsoft versions or something else? I already have a basic OBD2 scanner that I’ve tried but I doubt this gets into some of Porsche specific realms of the PDK etc. so I’d like to have something on hand in case anything kicks off (which it probably will at some point)! … If you have any experience of such diagnostics and can make a recommendation that would be appreciated.

Hi Michael,

Apart from the iCarsoft analyser, the Foxwell NT530 also has its followers at the cheaper end of the market. The Durametric analyser is well-regarded too, although it’s a more expensive item.

I have both an icarsoft v2 ( mine is "all manufacturers" - but is functionally equivalent to the V2 por) and a foxwell nt530 . I also have the Porsche PIWIS "dealer diags".

the foxwell is easier to use that the icarsoft and has more features - I would say it would be fine for perhaps 85% of the things I have ever used piwis for - and has the advantage of being extremely portable and self contained.

The icarsoft is good, the foxwell is better (in my opinion) but there are no wrong answers.

I have the icarsoft POR v3 for my 997.2 and pretty much covers everything, inc. PDK, e.g. pressures, actuator distances, etc. Very interesting but dont know what they mean as every thing is working OK, but I suppose that is your point?
