This afternoon I put a deposit down on the Guards Red RS which appeared on Pistonheads last week. The dealer selling it has previously sold a few 964 and 993 RSs and seems like a genuine guy who is trying to carve out a place in this niche market. He knows that to sell anything which isn't straight when everyone looking for an RS talks to everyone else, would be suicidal.

The car is original except for having a Turbo rear PU put on in 1991 when it was brought over from Munich. The bills show no other bodywork being done, just the PU and the bits behind it. There is no sign of any creasing or work to the rear end.

There were a couple of faults which Peter at Pink Pig Performance has agreed to put right:

1. A broken odometer, but the car has only done about 100 miles in this condition.
2. No original RS steering wheel, so if anyone looking to get rid of one would call him, that would help.

OPC Reading took the car in PX for a GT3 early in 2006 and spent ages restoring it, hence the new carpets and respray - there are bills which must total £7k of their own internal cost so God knows how much this would have cost you or me. They then had it as a display model in their showroom for a while before selling it on to PPP. It has new brakes, struts, springs all round, a new strut brace, new arch liners, new tyres and totally refurbed Mags.

The engine sounds really good and it holds oil pressure nicelyalthough it seems to be running more than 260 BHP.

I really couldn't believe that after months of tracking just about every RS in Europe which was for sale, I find a good one 35 miles from home. The only fault which I could otherwise find is the usual scuff on the seat - is there anyway of getting into a bucket without dragging your @rse across it?

As you may have guessed, I am a happy punter and I don't care if I paid over the odds for it or not as I don't intend getting rid of it.[:D]

saw that car in the opc a few months back in the main showroom - looked very good - and more attractive than some of the new stuff they had out on display....

nice car & hope to see you on track soon with it...

How not to scuff the seat.

Getting in.

1. Put your hand on the edge of the seat and sit over it.
2. Shuffle bum and thigh over hand and into the bucket
3. Remove hand !
4. Do not allow other people to sit in the car (--- you then cannot be held to account for your enthusiasm)

Getting out.

Rest hand on doorframe, lean onto hand and step out lifting bum out of seat

It isn't quite so easy in the Clubsport and Cup cars !

Good luck with finding the bits --- they are around but a little patience may help !

And congratulations !!

Thanks folks, she is a beaut and if the guy who wanted to see her tomorrow is on here - sorry mate, if you had gone on Saturday like you planned, you would have bought her.

Hoping to debut at the Porsche Oulton day in August although I am sure I'll be the slowest thing on track (I always like to get to know a car and a track before I start going for it and I have never done Oulton before)

Nic. How come the forum shows me as a non-member but my profile gives my membership number? You know I'm IT illiterate[:(]

Stewart, great looking car. Hope you enjoy it!
Looking at the pictures of it on Pistonheads doesn't it already have the original steering wheel on it?

Stewart,
Looks original to me too....the three spoke "Clubsport" wheel fitted to many cars was in fact an option. The RS four spoke wheel is similar to a std C2/4 wheel except it is slightly smaller has a thicker rim and does have an RS logo on the horn push.

Jon,
Are you going to the 1st Aug day at Oulton?, I may be tempted if there are a few other RS virgins I can hang around with ;-)

Cheers,
Kevin.

Its not original - its the standard 964 wheel. The RS one has the RS incription on it.

I've told him to stick a momo/sparco one on anyway[;)]

Good work

Having had a few laps of Bedford in a wonderfully sorted RS I now cannot get these cars out of my head. Having driven and sat in some pretty special cars around various circuits (Radicals, Caterhams, Lotuses, 996 GT3 RS, BMW CSL, Fezza 308, 355 & 360, Cerbera, Griffith to name but a few) I can honestly say none of them has had the same effect on me.
I hope to join the club sometime in the near future but with prices heading skywards and a new baby on the way it may be a while....

Hope the sale works out.

I also would be interested --- 'was in the RS today at Oulton --- but driving the new Audi R8 --- one of the German drivers is interested in buying it when I eventually am interested in selling it !

Stew... if you change your steering wheel, can I have first dibs on the one that's in it at the moment?
