Dash Bulbs

Hi guys
With pay day approaching soon I am going to be looking at sorting a few bits and pieces that I want sorting. One of the things I need/want to sort is the dash bulbs. I know I will have to clean/fix the reflectors but want to replace the entire dash with white led's. I am struggling to find a proper list of what bulbs I will need.
What led's will I need for the clock dials themselves? For the rest of the dash I think I need 14 twist fit led's is this correct?
Thanks,

Hi Will, I purchased white T10 SMD bulbs from a seller on Ebay you'll need 3 for the dash illumination & it made a huge improvement, they now perform like a modern car! I didn't replace any other "warning" bulbs as they were all working & still look okay. The silver reflective prisms looked okay on my clock set so I didn't use the silver foil technique recommended by others as the leds give a much brighter light anyway. I'll try & post up a pic later of the results. Alan.

Cheers man shall look at ordering three of them then when pay day is coming in :) Wasn't going to replace any of the warning lights, instead I'm replacing the clock light, heater lights ect so that they are all white as it would annoy me having white dials and the rest of the bulbs being the standard orange, and make the who dash look more modern.

I hope these pics work!

they look good man, so much better than standard! It's what ive done in my last 3 cars so this need it done! Have you done the clock, heater and those bulbs in the dash as well?

Hello, I've just bought some LED's of eBay for the instruments of my 89 Carerra but was wondering if there is an issue with the dimmer function? I assume LED's don't dim? Any thoughts? Thank you

I don't understand the dimming and led's, on my 1st two cars I fitted them the led's didnt dim where as on my 3rd car I fitted led's on they did. But think the general thought on them is that they don't.

some dont, but the one I fitted does dim

Funny isn't it I like my quirky low illuminated dash clocks adds to the character, I put a new bulb in the fan speed switch a couple of years ago...It's blinding [:D] keep looking for another old one!

I thought my silver prisms were in great condition until I looked at them with the lights on - they were completely translucent! Nail varnish remover (acetone free) and kitchen roll to remove, tin foil and masking tape to replace. Throw in a few LED bulbs:

These are the ones I got, dimmable too: Look at this on eBay: T10 9 LED 5050 SMD W5W Car Side Wedge Light Bulb Lamp 161 168 194 2825 White http://bit.ly/WY1aLC

ORIGINAL: DarrylH I bought some LEDs after reading this thread lol. I'll post up my results when I get them.
Cheers for the pics guys, all look good! I shall be buying mine aswell Darryl once pay day comes in (could get the now but shall wait), look forward to the pics. Im also gonna be buying a few twist fits for my full beam, parking light and indicators, plus a load of white led's to do ll the heater unit, switches, clock and cigarette lighter now I have an idea what to do for them. while doing that also going to hardwire my satnav cable behind the dash as well to come out by the drivers windscreen pillar.

Don't bother replacing any of the driving light bulbs with LEDs, I tried and it triggers the bulb-out warning of rapid flashing indicators. You need the LED bulbs with inbuilt resistors and they're not worth the cost.

[&o] thats a shame to hear! Still might be something I shall look into in the future, but got other things that need sorting and coming up in the next few weeks that need sorting that led's with resistors. Thanks for the heads up mate!

Or you solder inline resistors to correct the issue easy enough to do and cheap to buy had to do the same with my motorbike when I replaced the tail lights and indicators for a single combined unit.

David could you send me a link to said resistors please? As I have no clue what to look for there. I wont be doing the soldering as im hopeless with a soldering gun, but hoping to ask someone I know who's very good with one to do it for me. Thanks,

My thoughts exactly, I think they are made that way. Edd
I like originality but for me orange lights and dim dash lights are a real pet hate, but I know as well if I change my mind then its easy enough to reverse the change as well.
